snowplow Posted May 7, 2024 Posted May 7, 2024 Hey guys, as I read and learn I keep hearing about falcon rods. I've never heard of them before and never heard them mentioned anywhere else but I hear them mentioned. Hear a ton. Are they a sponsor or something? How do they compare to the other brands? Quote
BayouSlide Posted May 7, 2024 Posted May 7, 2024 I own six, the Lowrider models which I consider unbeatable at their price point. Excellent components, nice looking cork, great performance, plenty of versions for any technique and the Fuji low guide concept offers advantages to casting distance. Consider easily equal of my Tatulas (which are $25+ more) or my Dobyns Sierras or Kadens. If I want a better rod, I buy a Dobyns Champion XP or build one on an expensive blank. Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted May 7, 2024 Super User Posted May 7, 2024 They were very well known in the past. It was my brand of choice until they stopped making their rods in the US. I haven't bought one since. How do they compare to the other brands? I'm not a rod connoisseur like many on this forum. I just want a rod that has the right length, power, and action that I'm looking for. There are so many brands to choose from that I choose to buy American. 1 Quote
Texas Flood Posted May 7, 2024 Posted May 7, 2024 I have the Lowrider and Cara. I like them both a lot and you cant beat the price on the Lowrider. Quote
KP Duty Posted May 7, 2024 Posted May 7, 2024 Great rods. Still popular in Oklahoma, albeit not quite like they were. Jason Christie uses them exclusively, and I don't think he's missing any bites. Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted May 7, 2024 Super User Posted May 7, 2024 What would you like to know? Not a sponsor here that I'm aware of. Obviously I like them. Lots of great rods in the lineup and at a reasonable range of price point. I think at the $250 price point the Cara is the best value on the market. Quote
MediumMouthBass Posted May 7, 2024 Posted May 7, 2024 I went all in on budget rods last year, mainly the Aird X and some Lews rods on sale. I have no reason to upgrade the 21 casting rods i already have, but when i do ill be buying several Falcons and maybe an Ark or 2. The Falcons look really nice and have great reviews, and have quite a selection of rods on the budget side. Thats all my knowledge on them. And with every post @casts_by_fly makes about them i want to get one even more. 1 Quote
snowplow Posted May 7, 2024 Author Posted May 7, 2024 I was just wondering. It just kind of seemed weird that they were so highly recommended on here, but I'd never heard of them. Do you think that Kara is a better rod than the victory? That's my best bang for the buck in that price point so far. Quote

MyKeyBe Posted May 7, 2024 Posted May 7, 2024 Not the flavor of the month, not going to see them all over YouTube. They certainly have a following with people who fish though. It's been years since I was on any other forums but they used to always have people who used and recommended them. I believe dollar for dollar they are one of the best rods on the market. At their price points it's hard to find a rod that provides as much value between quality, warranty, and customer service. I love my falcon rods. 1 Quote
jbrew73 Posted May 7, 2024 Posted May 7, 2024 I like the falcon Cara and Expert line better the gloomis glx rods. So much so that I would trade my glx rods to anyone wanting to get rid of a falcon Cara or Expert. The Falcons rods are light weight , sensitive, well built , durable. Quote
rangerjockey Posted May 7, 2024 Posted May 7, 2024 The Cara is the better rod if your looking for a dragging rod. Moving baits, St. Croix always has some great actions. Falcon, like everybody has some standout models. The Amistad , swim jig, head turner and finesse jig are my personal favorites. Quote

I have a few USA made Lowriders, not buying the Chinese made ones, but I really liked the old ones. 1 Quote
GReb Posted May 8, 2024 Posted May 8, 2024 The new Chinese rods are just as good if not better and Falcon still stands behind their rods with a great warranty program. I understand the buying American made train of thought but it’s still an American owned small business. They haven’t sold out or been acquired to my knowledge. Most USA made rods still use foreign components. For instance Fugi is owned in Japan and produced in China. If that matters though look at ALX. They make a great product Quote
snowplow Posted May 8, 2024 Author Posted May 8, 2024 Well this is very interesting and not something I expected to find. So we know it's an awesome bang for the buck similar to the victories I already have. Where would you say it falls on sensitivity compared to others? On par with an Expride? Poison aAdrena? GLX? I'm thinking about buying a nicer finesse jig rod than my victory. Something with a lot better sensitivity. I haven't got a GLX in my hands but have tried the other Shimanos. The Expride is probably better than my victory but not noticeable enough for me to make a change. The Poison is definitely better and l would consider it for 200 more. The GLX not sure. So where would you say the Cara falls for sensitivity? Quote
rangerjockey Posted May 8, 2024 Posted May 8, 2024 Sensitive enough that you won't catch anymore fish on a GLX. They are all perfectly capable. Just depends on which one suits you. Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted May 8, 2024 Super User Posted May 8, 2024 I’ve been nothing but impressed with the falcon rods that I have Falcon Expert Head Turner x2 Falcon Expert Amistad Quote
LonnieP Posted May 8, 2024 Posted May 8, 2024 Would the Cara Swim Jig rod be good for 1/8 to 1/4 oz Texas rigs? Quote

GetFishorDieTryin Posted May 8, 2024 Posted May 8, 2024 Never owned one, or used 1, but years ago I picked one up in Cabela's and was really impressed. It was a 100$ rod and next a premier it was felt way better as far weight balance and the fit/finish were as good as SC. Quote

dk2429 Posted May 9, 2024 Posted May 9, 2024 Anybody here use a Lowrider Cranker II for deep cranks (5XD-6XD)? How does it work out? Quote
