So I fairly recently got into the big bait craze. Mostly big swim baits and glide baits. What’s got me a little baffled is the hype surrounding the S Waver. Mainly the 168 and 200 sizes. Curious what kinda luck people have had with this particular bait? I have given it an honest go and haven’t had a single bite on it. IMO the action is awful for a glide bait compared to the others. So I’ve been fishing more like a twitch bait and still can’t buy a bite with it. I have even searched YouTube videos and can’t even find a video of anyone smashing fish with them. Not even the guys hyping them up, other than a fish here and there. I guess I would just like to hear others opinions on this lure.

I will add the one glide bait that I am impressed with is the Savage Gear  Shine glide. For the price the action of this bait is amazing and you hardly hear a peep about it.

The S waver was only made to be a glide bait most people could afford, more for people kind of wanting to try it out but werent ready to spend tons of money on new gear.... Well thats what i think atleast.

But its not that great, definitely doesnt live up to the River2Sea name like the Whopper Plopper does, the Savage Gear ones are good for the money and so are the 13 Fishing Glidesdale (RIP), i usually wont recommend anything from 13 Fishing for many reasons, but the 2 things from them i would are the Glidesdale and the Whipper Snapper jerkbait. Both are fantastic lures and of course they discontinued both....

I only have 4 (2 120's and 2 168's) but honestly am thinking about selling just because they underwhelm my expectations of what they should be....

You can still get some Glidesdale's for about $13-15 on some places that have remaining stock, if you like glide baits and want to stay on the budget side they are really great. Next step up is the Storm Arashi, i got a few on sale and they are really, really nice. I really want to try one of the SPRO KGB Chad Shads tho, but thats a bit too much for me to spend on something that a pike or pickerel will bite off after 10 minutes....

Bait has consistently gotten bites for over a decade.  Swimbaits that don't perform typically die a quiet fast death.  S-waver is still kicking.

Got 8 or 12 S - Wavers and have been extremely unimpressed. My Spro KGB's will fish circles around them wavers.

S Waver 168 is my most successful of the three I have used. Trying the Chad Shad this year

S Waver hype can be good for some, not so good for others. I used the thing once and practically sitting got me an 8 pounder. Since then, nothing. Tactical Bassin swears by them. I guess it's just a matter of time if used long enough or used in the right places. For me, seems like most swimbaits have their moment, so to speak, where they shine. I've had the same thing happen with other swimbaits like the Sixth Sense Trace. Tossed it out one day and got a 9 pounder. Nothing much to speak of since. And I do give all of them a fair shot.

I did pretty decent with the 168 S Waver, but nothing crazy.

I do agree that the Shine Glide is a killer entry level bait that seems to get no mention at all.

I have to go back on what I said. Since the original post I have gotten into a couple instances where i was really whacking the 2 and 3 pounders and threw in the 168 ant it drew a 5 lb bite. This happened on two separate occasions. And I’ve caught a few other better quality fish since then. I does seem to draw the bigger bites out of a school.

Can you put your finger on what changed?

That’s a good question. I was really giving this bait an honest go, working the shorelines with it in places  I normally do good with swimjigs. Stained water, rocky face of dam type areas. I do fish the S-waver more like a twitch bait with an occasional pull to make it glide. That being said I got on a ledge area where I was catching one after the other on nearly every cast with a different bait, not the S-waver Mostly cookie cutter 1.5 to 3 lbers and just thought I’d throw the S-Waver in there to see what would happen.  I will add that this has been a spot that’s held big fish in the past. Any way throw it in there and a 5lber nails it. Then a four pounder. I believe on this day I also caught a couple smaller ones as well. But it did draw bigger bites out of the school. I’m guessing it’s something they haven’t seen before that drew the strikes. This same scenario has played out a couple times almost to a T. I definitely don’t think it’s a numbers lure but on these two occasions it drew a bigger bite.
