Shimano Curado K Baitcast Reel casting issue

I've owned this reel for over year now. It's never really cast very far. My friend has the same reel and can cast twice as far. Also now the thumb bar isn't always depressing. Like it isn't catching or something. Just wondering what the issue might be.

Casting issues are relatively straightforward: usually it's the brake system, and/or the spool tension knob tightness, and/or the two spool bearings. You can check them one by one.

Thumb bar issue may have many causes. It could be some damaged parts, or it could be just an overdue deep clean. But either way, you'll need to disassemble the reel. If you're not comfortable with that, send it to professionals like @Delaware Valley Tackle here.

A Curado 200K on a ML rod? Is the other friend also using a ML rod with the 200K?

 

I love my 200K on a 7'4" MH/MF rod.
