Super User ChrisD46 Posted May 3, 2024 Super User Posted May 3, 2024 My worm application would be in clear , northern waters for LM Bass and SM Bass - what is your opinion of when / why you would choose a Plum color worm vs. the Red Bug color worm ? ... Perhaps there is a historical reason why these two colors were developed for bass fishing ? 1 Quote

Super User LrgmouthShad Posted May 3, 2024 Super User Posted May 3, 2024 I really love plum. Plum apple is on another level though. Red bug is cool too I guess… 1 Quote
softwateronly Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 My MI lake is 10-14' visibility most of the time, but late May - mid June we usually get a vibrant green phytoplankton bloom. That has been my historical best time to throw Red bug/plum. I haven't noticed a difference between those two colors. scott Quote
Fishingmickey Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 Both fall under the category of Purple worm in my book and that's always been a favorite with me. Strike King's blue fleck is on that favorite list too. Dark red, dark purple, tomato tomahto. I think rate of fall and presentation are as or more important then color. FM Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted May 3, 2024 Super User Posted May 3, 2024 Without knowing your exact coordinates it's hard to say exactly which of the two colors would be best and of course it varies depending on the time of year, time of day, and the depth you are fishing. But generally speaking Plum would be the preferred color in western Washington. When I say plum I mean specifically 60,90,0,30 using the CMYK Color Model or Pantone 19-3218. But that's just a wild guess on my part. 1 Quote

rgasr63 Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 Plum and red bug are really close in color. Looking at my zoom stuff plum has blue flakes and red bug has green. I have used both for a good while and the only thing I could say is that the red bug works really better in hotter water temps. 1 Quote

I’m sure there are many who will disagree with me here, but I am going to go out on a limb and say they are not close. In the zoom line, at least. Beyond the flake color, the shade of red is different. Plum is more of a red-purple while red bug is closer to actual red. Red bug is a little brighter, too 4 Quote
rgasr63 Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 Red bug is the U-tale worm. My vision might not be perfect but red bug is darker to me by just a little bit. Quote
PaulVE64 Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 On Canada Day I throw a red one. I think that counts. 2 Quote
Brian11719 Posted May 4, 2024 Posted May 4, 2024 I prefer red bug but to each their own. Not really sure I'd switch to plum if they weren't biting it though since they are very similar. If they aren't biting red bug I usually go to green pumpkin magic or junebug red if I think it's because the visibility is lower... 1 Quote
Super User Bird Posted May 4, 2024 Super User Posted May 4, 2024 Whatever one is closest to purple. My favorite warm water worm is a Jackall flickShake in cola...... looks purple too me. Quote
GRiver Posted May 4, 2024 Posted May 4, 2024 I knew really keep any red bug or plum… I use tequila sunrise. Quote
Super User Catt Posted May 4, 2024 Super User Posted May 4, 2024 I prefer Plum Apple over Plum & Red Bug over both. Why? IDK! The bass here say give me that, so I do. 2 1 Quote
