island bassin Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 I have been looking for a good mono line which can perform well for all presentations? It can be a coated mono as well. Thanks Quote
BucketmouthAngler13 Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 Trilene XL has never failed me. Its priced good and is strong, and its the only line i use. Quote
Super User Raul Posted December 11, 2006 Super User Posted December 11, 2006 "The BEST" is a highly subjective appreciation, what performs well for you may not perform well for me. Lines that I 've tried: Stren Original.- Good line until you find a sharp rocky place, it abrades easily Trilene XL.- for year I used it, better resistant to abrassion than SO Trilene XT.- resists well the abrassion but once you get above 12 lb test it 's like fishing with wire Big Game.- Same as XT Magnathin.- great line but the thin diameter makes it nick easily and stretches a lot. Rapala Finesse.- Like XL Rapala Tough.- "tough" is not there just because, it really tolerates well abrassion and it has low diameter even in the higher tests without being to wiry Magnum 7/20 & 14/40.- the best thing was that it was discontinued from the market long ago. The one I feel most comfortable with is Trilene Big Game. Quote
Michael H Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 For baitcasting i only use big game and from my spinning i use trilene xl. Quote
Hawgin Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 I have had great success with Suffix Siege and Elite. I will never use Big Game again, unless I'm bored and want to play "slinky". Quote
castaway Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 Sufix Siege, Or Mustad Thor worked well for me .I would like to buy bulk spools since I have so many different setups. Going back to Ande Back country line. The only reason I left it was because its not available in my area, Its a saltwater flats line.It handles very well and is strong, great priced. If you want to try a Japanese line, give Jinkai a try, very nice line, but a bit pricey. Ivan Quote
Greg Harris Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 I've searched for the best, and about a year ago found it. I absolutley love Triple-Fish Camo-Escent Perlon. Perlon is basically mono, but restores itself after being streched. So far this year, I've caught over 400 fish using this line, and have only had one break off using this line. Quote
Rattlinrogue Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 Trilene XL is about the best overall mono IMO.I also use XT and Big Game.Caught a lot of big fish on the Big Game with no break offs. Quote
Bud Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 Try some Sunline. It is a bit high but good line. Quote
Papa_Tom Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Baitcasters, 10 lb test and above....Big Game. Almost always the green. Spinning....eight lb test and less, I'm all over the map. Wish Big Game came in lower pound tests. I know it can display some memory, especially when cold, but overall it has been very efficient for me. I can't remember a break off with it. My $.02 Quote
Big T Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 I have tired Stren, Berkley XL, Berkely Trilene Big Game , Silver Thread, Ande, Momoi and Calcutta Saltwater line. As other have said it is what you are comfortable with. For me, that line would have to be Ande and Ande Back Country, I have never had a fish break this line. I once had a Red Drum break Momoi Line which is supposed to be a saltwater offshore line. The others with the exception of maybe Big Game, I just did not like. Quote
justfishin Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Baitcasters---Big Game or Dura Tuf, all in #10-#20 Spinning---Silver Thread or Super Silver Thread, Excel, all in #8 Quote
Guest kingsalmon Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 - P-Line Fluoroclear, the best mono, in my opinion. - Ande Back country, very good line at very low cost. Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 I like the Red Cajun line. Never had a problem with it. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted December 12, 2006 Super User Posted December 12, 2006 I am COMPLETELY sold on P-Line. As much as I would like to not be a total fan boy for a company, they have a line for everything I do, and I haven't been able to find better performance. CXX- Their extra strong. Great abrasion resistance. My swimbait line. CX Premium- Flouro coated coplolymer. Very very small diameter line. handles well. I just started using their evolution line and I am liking it alot. I am using it in 8lb for my finesse situations and I don't have a single complaint yet. The only line of theirs I do not care for is the Floroclear. Its abrasion resistance is similar to whipped cream. Quote
island bassin Posted December 14, 2006 Author Posted December 14, 2006 Many thanks , i shall try the Trilene XL Quote
CyBasser Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 Many thanks , i shall try the Trilene XL Quote
CyBasser Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 Many thanks , i shall try the Trilene XL Hi island bassin, Accidentally hit the "post" before writing the reply! Anyway, excellent choice! Before switching to braid for my spinning equipment early this year, I was using solely Trilene XL for four years and was very very happy with it. Very soft, easy casting, manageable stretch, and quite good abrasion resistance. It never failed me, even when using it in the thick shoreline bushes of Asprokremmos. Best of all, it is available here at very reasonable prices. The importer is H&A Strovolos, but I am pretty sure it is available in some of the shops near you (I think I've seen it at "Green and Blue" behind Orfanides)... Quote
justfishin Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Baitcaster--- Big Game Spinning---Super Silver Thread Good all around line for both that is cheap to buy for the amount and I still put on my client rods ( spinning #8) BPS Excel in low vis green. Quote
hi_steel_basser Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 I couldn't find the quote button, So I'll just say that all of my deep water worm and jig fishin is done with P-line flouroclear and let you figger it out. For topwaters and spinnerbaits, I like Trilene Sensation. (Awesome line, abrasion res., castable, fairly low stretch) I'm supprised I'm the first to mention it here. When I'm flippin and pitchin, I use big game, p-line cxx, or p-line braid(can't remember the name, and I ain't about to go out and find it just to put the name in a post). The monos go into wood, and the braid goes into weeds. Crankin rods get a pure flouro, p-line or vanish. Quote
ga_hawghauler Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 i like the berkley trilene xl and the big game Quote
Super User Munkin Posted December 16, 2006 Super User Posted December 16, 2006 Big Game is cheap and just as good as any other mono I have tried. One thing I have found is that Big Game is underrated so try using the next lighter size? Trilene XL casts the best but also stretches more than other monos. Allen Quote
Pa Angler Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 McCoy's Co-Poly Flo-Blue low stretch and low memory. Quote
