I just bought some yo-zuri hybrid line (10 lb) for my baitcaster. They didnt have ultra soft, but heard good things about both lines. Anyways, i noticed its very stiff. Is this a problem. I also seems to have a lot of line memory. What are the pros and cons to regular yo-zuri hybrid line?

ive never fished the regular... i use the US version for soft plastics and really liked it. not hardly any memory, plus it is very strong.. i never broke it off other than when i was so hung up i had to pull as hard as i could to get it to snap.. i only used it for soft plastics but i am planning on switching all my casting rods to this line... havent tried it for spinning.

Hybrid has higher fluorocarbon content... resulting the following qualities vs. ultra soft:

- reduced visibility in water

- 1 lb. higher break strength (over Ultra soft)

- increased abrasion resistance

- slightly less stretch

- increased memory

Mr. flechero has answered the question precisely.

Memory is the biggest issue, especially on spinning equipment. I have been using Ultra Soft #4 & #6 on spinning tackle and #12 on baitcasting equipment for almost a year. I have NEVER been broken off by a fish using this line.

I have had memrory problems with heavier Yo-zuri Hybrid. . try useing "REEL MAGIC' on the line. spray it on every 10 or so cast. It make the line  alot more workable ( dose that with any line I have tried it with). I use the 12 lb hybrid a lot and use the reel magic with it and it make the line so much better to use.

On other thing I have notice about Hybrid. Is keep it out of direct sunlight when not using it. I have noticed that if a reel sit out on the deck all day with hybrid on it and the sun is hitting the line, the line seems to have more memory problems. I always keep my reels upside down. so the sun doesn't hit the spool.

Your response to the question was so concise, you deserved a salute...Mister.

Well i gave the line a workout. One thing i noticed, was that through the day, the line seemed to get more manageble. What i mean is, it straightend out and became a little more limp then what it was when it was on the spool. A bunch of praise goes to yo-zuri for this line. It is stiffer than what i would like for a spinning reel, but performed greatly for the casting reel. The line never got a single fray in it, and i was fishing the bottom of a river (snaggy as possible) I broke off once, but that was on purpose on a snag. My old trilene sensation cant compare. They are both 10 lb. test, but i could barely break the hybrid line where the triline was much easier. So over all

pros                                           cons

-very strong                                         - stiff

-holds a good knot                                - lots of memory

-casts good (on baitcasters)

-never frayed

-does not stretch

How would you rate ultra soft and my Canadian regular Vanish Transition?

How would you rate ultra soft and my Canadian regular Vanish Transition?

Vanish has quite a bit less stretch than Ultra Soft, but it is also a little bit stiffer.  I would say castability of Vanish is right in-between Ultra Soft and regular Hybrid, but Vanish is also less visible.  I grew up using Trilene XT, and while softer lines are a little more forgiving when you cast; I honestly don't mind memory, and enjoy the benefits of stiffer line.

I have always used Trilene Xt because it is the easiest to find considering I only have a dicks to go to for tackle unless I go online. However, if the hybrid is good, I will consider bulking up on it for next season.

I started using Hybrid due to Mr. Warrior's recommendations.  On my baitcaster it does have some memory but after a few (5-10) casts it is gone.  I have not broke the line yet.  I would recommend it as well!!!

I think you would find the #6 Ultra Soft to be an excellent choice for spinning tackle, I do!

When I first started reading this site (~1 year ago), I took Road Warriors advice and bought some 6 lb hybrid for my new at the time 2500 stradic. Now, reels are spooled with the standard Hybrid. 6lb on spinning reels and 12 pound on baitcasters.

In the last year, I've only had one fish break off, and based on how it was 'rolling' under the water, I'd have to say it was a big catfish. I've caught fish as large as 9lbs on the 6lb hybrid, and probably 7 or 8 in the 6 pound range on the 12 lb without a breakoff.

To me, the Hybrid is manageable enough that I'm in no hurry to switch to Ultra Soft. I imagine for my next purchase of line though, I'll pick up some 6lb US just to try it out. My point is, don't be afriad to run the original Hybrid on spinning tackle.

My fishing partner uses original #6 Hybrid exclusively. I agree that it is mangable on spinning gear, but the Ultra Soft has almost no memory after a couple of casts. I simply like it better because of that particular feature.
