One extra spool of line.       4. Needle nose pliers.             5. Hat. ( Ball cap or boonie style).                                               6. Line clippers.                         7. Pocket knife.                         8. Sunscreen.                             9. Polarized sunglasses.         10. Bottled water and/ or coffee.                                                Besides the baits and lures your carrying, what are your must have items that you take on every fishing trip?

I can't really add much other than what has already been stated here.  But I'll add my measuring board.  I stays in my boat though so its just always there.

More a regional item, but I also keep jaw spreaders with me, both standard and magnum size.  For when pike inhale a lure and refuse to open their mouth.

Toilet paper and/or gas station napkins.  The ones from the window cleaning station at the pump are rough, tough, and don't take crap off of nobody.

Big container of Vinegar, keeps ticks and mosquitoes away for hours. Wont leave home to fish without atleast a gallon or 2 in the car.

Sun shirt/hoodie and hat.

Pliers, line clippers, braid scissors, fish gripper (pickerel), SK Ocho wacky tool.

Wrap around sunglasses (polarized).

Whether from bank, boat, or kayak i take a Ozarak Trail or Okeechobee tackle bag, holds 2 3600 trays, 1 full of Strike King soft plastics and the other lures, a few extra bags of soft plastics and it holds everything. Doesnt take up much space either.

A small terminal tackle box with way too many hooks and tungsten weights also fits.

2 bottles of water with me but more in the car if i need them.

If on kayak ill bring whistle, life jacket, kayak, paddle.

I also bring rods and reels, i see some of you not mentioning that, you guys just throwing the line and hook out into the water then? Interesting way to fish.

Don't forget your fishing license, because the game warden will not forget his ticket book.

This is a good thread. Makes you think about what you check for before you go fishing. I saved a copy of my post into my notes with a few additions based on comments here. With any luck, I will be doing pre-fishing ‘layouts’ based on this list before I go fishing.

Plug knockers for lure retrieval. More than one because I may lose both the knocker and the lure on a tough snag.

I make my own from 5 or 6 oz. bank sinker, a snap swivel and a zip tie.

I also carry a 8 foot extendable Frabil lure retriever pole.

Also carry a "hound dog" type knocker on a retractable dog leash, but only as a last resort. The others tend to work better.
