Super User WRB Posted April 30, 2024 Super User Posted April 30, 2024 You like KVD get a KVD signature rod. Tom 3 Quote
r83srock Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 I really like how those KVD rods feel in the store, never fished one though but I have fished many cheaper Lews rods and always liked them. But for $250-$300 I do think SC Avid is very good if you like old school full grip cork, timeless rod that was recently updated a bit, used to be a staple for SC and I wish they would come out with a full line of powers/actions like they used to have. otherwise I think SC Victory is really hard to beat at $200, although they don’t have a 7’ rod specifically 7’1” MH. Fishes as good as any $250-$300 rod that I have experienced. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted April 30, 2024 Super User Posted April 30, 2024 What does the OP want to use the rod for? Crank baits, jigs??? Tom 1 Quote

Tom That was my first thought and why I didn't reply when OP first posted. Tons of good rods in that price range, but suggesting one is hard if you don't know what it will be used for. Quote

I think it’s a real stand out in that Victory line up. You wouldn’t be disappointed in it. If I can only take out one rod, it’s this one and I use it for Everything! 2 Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted April 30, 2024 Super User Posted April 30, 2024 For $250 I would go straight to a Falcon Cara and be done with it. Pick your poison for length and action based on usage. 1 Quote
MediumMouthBass Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 I have 2, wait no 3 KVD rods. I really like them. I had an option awhile ago to get a KVD reel but passed on it, ugh.... Only thing is the handle on the bottom isnt as nice as the ones on the TP1X but the rest of the rods great, and it would match your reel perfectly. Quote

St croix avid I now just purchased St Croix premier 7’ MH moderate from Bass PRO $229 plus tax. Haven’t tried it out but afraid the thing will break because it’s so light. The KVD bait caster feels good with the rod. Should I get a little heavier rod. thanks. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted April 30, 2024 Super User Posted April 30, 2024 Ouch. Inflation? I had Premiers pegged as good value if under about $130. But, it was a while since I looked at them. Handling both side by side, I felt Victory was twice the rod as a Premier 2 Quote

You need the right rod for your application, i.e. MH/F for jigs, so handle as many rods that interest you as possible. Just like a pair of shoes, you’ll know when you have the right one. Best of luck picking out a rod for your new baitcast reel. 15 minutes ago, Reacon said: afraid the thing will break because it’s so light. Don’t be afraid. I’m a Kistler fan and their MH/F rods weigh about 3.5 ounces and handle everything I’ve put them through. Today’s technology is awesome! 2 Quote

Inflation has increased the price of the Premier line to $170-$190 depending on rod length. Quote

For the same price you can get a mojo bass trigon or $16-25 more you can get a victory 1 Quote

Reacon Posted May 1, 2024 Author Posted May 1, 2024 ordered the lews KVD LKVDGC4 on Amazon it came in 4 pcs. 😫😫 I still would like to get that rod, but learned my lesson not to buy rods on Amazon. Any suggestions where I can get that particular rod. thanks Quote
MediumMouthBass Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 Midway has them on sale a few times a year, i got my 3 i think for $60 each last season, Omnia usually has something for rod or reel sales in the spring/summer too. If you can wait a bit you might be able to get one at a great price or 2 for the price of 1, if you need one now Tackle Warehouse, Midway, local stores, Omnia just to name a few. Quote

In the States both Tackle Warehouse and American Legacy ship to Canada both have sales and ALF offers new customer discount. Tom 1 Quote

mcipinkie Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 Any rod in that price range will be a "good" rod. The question is which fits your needs. I'm relatively affluent, fortunately, but I don't buy status. I buy tools. I'm buying BPS rods right now. Mostly Crankin' Sticks for pull baits and Fish Eagles for drop baits. $80 per. Quote
Brian11719 Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 I bought the rod and reel towards the end of last year. Love the reel but one thing I really don't like about the rod is the foam grip. If at all possible I'd say try one out first or at least decide if you are ok w/ a foam grip. In my case I have 2 rods w/ foam grips and they are my least favorite as I prefer cork or winn style grips...aside from that it's an ok rod and the reel is nice...bit of a step up from the speed spool lfs...
