Super User BrianMDTX Posted April 30, 2024 Super User Posted April 30, 2024 I truly remember the mantra from my youth. “I before E except after C, unless sounded like A as in neighbor and weigh”. It appears to have some wiggle room. 2 Quote
throttleplate Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 i still dont know what a pronoun is, anyone? Quote
Super User islandbass Posted May 1, 2024 Super User Posted May 1, 2024 @A-Jay Is that a western haiku? 😂 The English language is rich in exceptions to the rule such that many people who learn English can be dazed and confused — but it’s natural to us. cough rough dough bough wrought ghoti 😝 @throttleplate if you genuinely wanted to know, pronoun is a word that takes place of a noun. 😇 Without the use of pronouns: Ex: Sam put on Sam’s shoes before Sam left Sam’s house. Next, Sam drove to Sam’s friend’s house before going to Sam’s studio where Sam and Sam’s friend worked on recording Sam’s latest song. The use of the pronouns, him, he, and his eliminates such awful monotony as is illustrated in the paragraph above. Quote

Super User islandbass Posted May 2, 2024 Super User Posted May 2, 2024 @J Franchoor palindromes, lol! @throttleplate my middle school grammar teachers (6-8th grade 😥) drilled the living dickens out of us, even made diagram sentences for goodness sake. Gerund? Isn’t that the new boy in Mrs. James’ class? 😉 past participle? Predicate nominative? Wow, maybe English is tough 😂 1 Quote
