Brand new Daiwa certate makes noise when reeling

I just bought a brand new 24 certate lt 3000 and right out of the box when I turn the handle I can hear a slight metal rubbing noise in the spool. When I take the spool off it doesn't do that. It is super quiet and smooth. I even put a tatula mq spool on it and it is quiet and smooth. I put the stock spool back on and I can hear it again. Just wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this. I purchased the reel from japan, so I am hoping it is something simple so I dont have to try and send it back.

These dudes seem to know the mechanics of reels really well.   

That said you have a reel that's high end, and only released two months ago, might be easier to just contact Daiwa, and then if you have to send it back, then contact the JDM vendor.   

 

I'll buy if for 50% off as a final solution if need be 🤣

I think you're going to have to evaluate the "slight rubbing noise" in perspective.  

My Shimano Twin Power C3000MHG does something that may sound similar, and different from all my other (worm-drive) Shimanos - the reel is such a beast, the sound doesn't bother me.  

 

The sound you're describing almost has to be light contact between the spool and the rotor.  See if it only happens at the bottom of the spool oscillation.  

If I'm right here, adding the smallest spool shim will eliminate the noise.  

HOWEVER, spool shims have a very specific purpose - to adjust oscillation position to improve line lay, and not something you want to mess with until line lay needs adjusting.  

 

The one thing I can read about 24 Certate is Airdrive Rotor and Spool are both new designs.  

The drag-pay clicker was somehow removed from the spool.  The rotor shape was changed to beef up deflection points under line load, and shed mass everywhere else.

My first thought is check the amount of grease on the internal gears...I've received new reels that needed a touch more before they'd settle down.

My 2024 Daiwa certate 5000 xh ark has the same rubbing noise, but mine, the rubbing sound stays even if i take the spool off, I tested with the exact same model at the local shop and mine still has the rubbing sound/noise, I contacted Daiwa Australia, but they said it’s normal, and they can almost guarantee the reel is just fine, but i just find it stressful that my brand new reel has the rubbing sound specially when it’s quite expensive, I would probably send it back to daiwa for an assessment though, but i’m afraid that they will not do anything about it.

I have the LT2500S-DH and it made a similar noise when I took it out of the box. I put line on it, fished it hard and it is fine now. Great reel so far.

I know how to fix it and have fixed all my Daiwa's with this easy move. I boxed them up and buy Shimano 😛

 

On a side note. I have noticed super high end reels like yours that do have a more unique sound when reeling.

I had a reel that did that. Spent time looking at it hard and eventually noticed a sticker on the rotor that had peeled up slightly and so it was rubbing on the inside of the spool. Took the sticker off. 😄
