Super User FryDog62 Posted April 26, 2024 Super User Posted April 26, 2024 Buddy of mine is looking for a swim jig head (no skirt) and with a brush weed guard AND screwlock type of plastic keeper. The picture is one that would work but smallest size is 3/8 oz and he is looking for 1/4 oz. 1 Quote

Super User NorthernBasser Posted April 27, 2024 Super User Posted April 27, 2024 Could always tear the skirt off a 6th Sense Divine swim jig. 1 Quote

Tackleholic Posted April 27, 2024 Posted April 27, 2024 I don't like screw locks, eliminate that to facilitate your search. Quote

We both actually prefer them. They take 20 seconds to twist on versus 30 seconds for messy super glue to dry. Twistlocks stay on better too. A big factor when you’re tossing jigs into the knees and roots of mangrove trees… 3 Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted April 27, 2024 Super User Posted April 27, 2024 Do It makes a mold with a screw lock like that. I could probably be modified to take a weedguard. Quote
BlakeMolone Posted April 28, 2024 Posted April 28, 2024 I’ve been wondering if you could drill out a hole for a weedguard into any jighead? Quote

I've done it with bismuth based jigs I bought not realizing they had no guards. Lead is plenty soft so should be able to as well. Can't speak to tungsten,it's pretty hard but I'd imagine it's possible. Quote

Just don't use a standard cobalt bit on it - TiN coated HSS....and plenty of oil. And use a vise to hold...I'll drill steel and aluminum holding it by hand, but not tungsten. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted April 28, 2024 Super User Posted April 28, 2024 You need fixture to drill a hole accurately into a jig hard imo. I use a Hitchhicker spring to attach a soft plastic finesse worm cut about 1 1/2”-2” long to insert the hook point into as a weed guard, works good. Tom Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted April 28, 2024 Super User Posted April 28, 2024 I have drilled holes in jigs. In order to be consistent I built a 2 sided wood holder that I could clamp in a vice and use my drill press. It was a tedious process. I have also modified several molds to accept weed guards. I prefer to use Surflon instead on fiber weed guards. I use it in 45, 60, and 90#. Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted April 28, 2024 Author Super User Posted April 28, 2024 Still hard to believe someone doesn’t already make a 1/4 oz screwlock jig with a weedguard. Maybe it’s a new product opportunity to make a million bucks… sounds better than drill baby drill anyway - - Quote
