snowplow Posted April 24, 2024 Posted April 24, 2024 Just curious guys, both are about 500 bucks, how do they compare? Is one material more light or sensitive than the other? Does your choice depend on individual models? Also what's the difference with usa or jdm P5s? Just kinda window shopping but if it helps at all kinda thinking of the MH MBR and the X-Bites. Quote
KP Duty Posted April 24, 2024 Posted April 24, 2024 I'd go GLX for bottom contact. Though I'll admit my P5's aren't XF high carbon models, they are regular/moderate tapered sticks. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted April 25, 2024 Super User Posted April 25, 2024 If you are buying from the US market, I would go with the GLX for bottom contact even though the P5's are really good. There is no real difference in the US and JDM P5's, except warranty and a few models are only made for the US. In the GLX line, I have three of the older models. 783C, 844C and the 803C. All are great. In the P5 line, I have several but tend to like them for hard baits rather than bottom contact. The X-Bites is one that I do not have. I do have the Super Destroyer and it's pretty good for just about anything. My favorite is the Six Eleven. I use it for small cranks and jerkbaits but does ok with small soft plastic as well. 1 Quote
TNBankFishing Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 I’ve owned the Xbites and can speak to their quality. I also own several NRX+ rods and have owned multiple Steez, legend xtreme, and Dobyns. For my money (always a personal thing) I would never buy a MBR Loomis rod. If you’re looking for a multi-use stick, the JDM brands blow Loomis out of the water. If you’re looking for a strictly bottom contact jig and worm rod Loomis wins at the NRX level. I owned and sold multiple older gen GLXs as they weren’t near the value of their price. if you’re looking at throwing half once total weight or less on a bottom contact stick the Xbites will be more sensitive and significantly better looking than a GLX. If you want a multipurpose rod to do bottom contact, some swim jigs, a spinnerbait or topwater here or there there are rods that will do that. padon Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 i have a glx that i got for 25% off. it a good rod for that price. i wouldnt pay 550 for it which is what a new one would cost . i dont feel its any better than my shimano exprides.never owned an nrx so i cant comment on that. i do own an xbites and feel like it is worth the money. its my favorite lighter jig and texas rig rod. after using it id like to have a fmj , addermine and wind buster to go with it. snowplow Posted April 25, 2024 Author Posted April 25, 2024 Thanks for the awesome info guys. Maybe you won't mind if I ask a more specific follow-up question? I'm not necessarily ready to buy, but I'm keeping my eyes open for what would be the perfect ride for what I'm looking for. Something to keep a quarter ounce jig tied on. I tend to prefer to throw that on a spinning rod if possible, but a baitcaster is fine. That led me to the GLX MH 843s SpinJig rod. Then also to the X-Bites baitcaster. I'm thinking the 1/4-3/4 oz is where l should be. Does Megabass have any spinning rods that would fit the bill? I'm not seeing any. Any other ideas? I'm half tempted to just buy an expired but l would spend more if needed. Quote

Any other ideas? In the P5 spinning line up, the Windbuster is the do all rod. Not sure it will handle a 3/4oz jig though. I would say the same of the X bites. Just on a "held it in my hands" observation, I think both these rods are more comfortable at a 1/2oz with trailer. Quote
snowplow Posted April 25, 2024 Author Posted April 25, 2024 Not sure if you misread my message or you were just saying but just for clarity I'm looking to mainly throw 1/4 oz jigs with trailer. They are usually 1/2-5/8 oz with trailer. I currently throw them on a victory M/XF spinning 3/16-5/8. But it's really easy for me to miss a hook set. I think I need just a little bit more backbone. Which is why I was looking at rods in 1/4-3/4 range. Quote
padon Posted April 26, 2024 Posted April 26, 2024 wind buster or xbites will both handle that. i dont own a wind buster but a friend does. ive fished with it and thrown a 5/16 finesse jig with a small trailer which it handled perfectly. Quote
Penn Posted April 26, 2024 Posted April 26, 2024 P5 is over priced in the U.S. I personally prefer GLX. I had both P5 and NRX. They are both great rods, but the price for P5 isn't really worthing since in Japan is at least 20% cheaper. Quote

snowplow Posted April 26, 2024 Author Posted April 26, 2024 I really have a hard time overlooking that g Loomis warranty. I gave a hard time justifying expensive rods, but with an awesome warranty it feels better 2 Quote
padon Posted April 26, 2024 Posted April 26, 2024 holy moly! 700 in canada!! if you want the glx go to the store and put your hands on it. if it feels good to you buy it. or you can save a few more pennies and get an nrx. Quote

Loomis replacement program is a rip off at their price points. Offer two free replacements to original owner for life. In all the years I’ve fished high end gear I’ve never snapped anything that wasn’t the first outing. Megabass warranty is fantastic and if it’s going to blow up it will in the first year and replacement is free. I still think the St. Croix warranty is the best in the business. 5 hours ago, Penn said: P5 is over priced in the U.S. I personally prefer GLX. I had both P5 and NRX. Even with discounts it’s not a $400 rod in terms of performance. 2 Quote
wonkyrig Posted April 28, 2024 Posted April 28, 2024 The new GLX feel considerably better than last gen to me. 1 Quote
snowplow Posted April 29, 2024 Author Posted April 29, 2024 Hmmmm. Do you guys think the poison adrena can compete? Quote

The poison Adrena 6’11M+ is a great light jig and worm rod. It also kills in the 5/8-3/4oz jerkbait category. My definite favorite out of the 4 I’ve owned. scott edit: I bought 3/4 used. The one I bought new is the one I broke by catching a cleat 3 years after buying it. If you look you can get used adrenas around 250. Well worth it. Quote

UmairF Posted September 2, 2024 Posted September 2, 2024 I guess this is kinda relevant to the OP considering it’s regarding the p5 xbites; would you guys throw a wacky senko on it (30 lb braid to a 12-14lb fluoro leader)? Usually a 1/8 oz weighted owner hook on a wacky senko to be exact. Reason I ask is because I’ll usually throw it on a NRX+ 852 S (15 lb braid to 10-12lb fluro leader) and it’s the gold standard for sure but I’m looking for a little more versatility in my casting approaches especially since Im usually fishing behind people casting at unusual spots/angles they didn’t hit a few seconds before me. Primarily picking apart leftover boat dock areas and sometimes holes in lilly pads. I totally get the “dont fix whats not broken” idea but for me it’s more about casting efficiency. I fish a lot as a co-angler and rely heavily on the 852S for a bunch of other techniques. Would be nice not having to retie that one rod every time we switch locations. Was thinking of using another 7’1 medium (st croix legend tournament bass) spinning rod but again, looking for more precise and efficient casts at specific targets which a baitcaster would do much better. Also have the 6’10 Medium casting Expride B which I’m trying to figure out what to throw on besides topwater and jerkbaits. Just putting this as an option beside the p5 xbites. Quote
Goby Posted September 2, 2024 Posted September 2, 2024 You can buy a brand new Fenwick World Class rod right now for $375.00 through A.L.F. I would rank them as sensitive, if not more than the GLX and a much better build quality than any Loomis... I have owned a lot of Loomis rods, including NRX+ and they just have never meshed well for me, most of the stuff I fish is custom, but I now have 5 of these World Class rods by Fenwick and they are really nice rods. Extremely sensitive. I have a Orochi XX Brailist made by Megabass that is a really nice rod, don't own any P5's though. Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted September 2, 2024 Super User Posted September 2, 2024 I fish GLX rods, I fish Edge rods. The build quality is excellent. It’s traditional and all that is needed. I also fish Kistler rods.. I can afford NRX+ rods but I don’t need them. My rods offer everything I need and I can feel everything. I even have one OG Zillion rod that’s has very good feel and cast ability. . I don’t care what anyone chooses but to say Loomis GLX rods aren’t worthy is preposterous. 1 Quote
