David.newfisherboy Posted April 23, 2024 Posted April 23, 2024 Just bought this baitcasters from the secondhand market I need help from anyone who knows how to use this “braking system” it just says open or close. By the way this is a old baitcaster. Quote
garroyo130 Posted April 23, 2024 Posted April 23, 2024 Not familiar with that particular reel, but im guessing you open it, slide the side plate up and will find your adjustments either on the spool itself or on the side plate? It looks familiar to a reel I had which had the adjustment thingamajig attached to the spool. 1 Quote

GRiver Posted April 23, 2024 Posted April 23, 2024 @David.newfisherboy can you get a pic of the bottom of the reel? If you turn the dial does turn 90 degrees and stop or almost 360. Quote
Fishingmickey Posted April 23, 2024 Posted April 23, 2024 I'm guessing the only cast control on that reel is the tension knob by the handle. It's before centrifugal or magnetic brakes came out. FM 1 Quote
Bigbox99 Posted April 23, 2024 Posted April 23, 2024 Open the side plate and get a look at the spool. That'll tell you all you need to know. 1 Quote

BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted April 24, 2024 BassResource.com Administrator Posted April 24, 2024 Again, the video shows you how to adjust this. Quote
Skunkmaster-k Posted April 24, 2024 Posted April 24, 2024 I wish someone would make a video explaining how to adjust a baitcasting reel. 1 Quote
Bigbox99 Posted April 24, 2024 Posted April 24, 2024 17 hours ago, David.newfisherboy said: Anyone who knows how to use this? Or type? Looks like a 4 pin centrifugal brake with a tapered race. Turning the dial on the side plate with the brass ring (centrifugal race) should move that ring in and out from the side plate. When the ring is moved outwards from the side plate and closer to the spool the centrifugal brakes on the spool rub on the ring now that the smaller diameter portion of the ring is in the path of the centrifugal brakes and this increases braking. Moving the ring into the side plate and away from the spool will allow the centrifugal brakes on the spool to rub on the larger diameter portion of the ring reducing braking to the minimum setting. It's going to be an analog adjustment with the movement of the ring towards to spool increasing braking until it reaches maximum. I'd set the spool tension to just eliminate side to side play, never touch it again and then set that centrifugal brake to maximum and start casting backing off as you go until you reach your happy medium setting. It's also possible that there may always be too much brake and that some oil may have to be added to the centrifugal race to counteract this. Some like oil and some don't. It depends on the reel and this one is a mystery reel so it'll be a learning process. 3 Quote
