Hair jig rod

What is the best spinning rod for hair jigs for smallmouth fishing on reservoirs?  Preferably 7’ 6”  Don’t want to break the bank.  Thanks

Can't say it's the best because I haven't used it yet but I just received a 7' 6'' Expride in ML  that looks to me to be the perfect candidate.

7’> MLXF. Depending on weight of jig. The middle of the posted range is usually the sweet spot. Don’t bust your budget but invest in a good rod.

They have gone to the Trigon handles on the latest Mojo Bass rods, but the outlet store still sells this model for $160. I have had mine for about two years now and I have been contemplating buying another just to put in the rafters in case the unthinkable happens to the one I have.

 

I don't fish hair jigs, but this thing slays with a 5" weightless wacky Senko. I feel bites on a bowed line, and it is really good at keeping fished pinned.

I picked up a Lew's Custom Lite CLTJRS (spinning rod) on sale earlier this year and really like it for finesse jigs. My only complaint is there aren't more spots where I can throw them but this rod has a good amount of balance when it comes to backbone and sensitivity for this type of thing (IMHO)...I also like it for swim worms but please be advised it doesn't say 'swim worms' on the rod / spec sheet so I guess I'm a bit of a maverick when it comes to that...

Whether it's a hair jig, a marabou jig, a Ned rig, a wacky worm, or whatever else you want to fish, the important thing is to match the power to the weight of the lure if you plan to cast it.  Then the action you prefer.  Most like what's called fast but that varies with the manufacturer.

 

This belief that we need all kinds of different rods for different techniques is highly exaggerated.  Most rods will do a number of techniques well if the power is  matched to the weight of the lure being cast.
