Deuceu72 Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Braid & Spinning gear do not mix at all..........You really need a baitcast reel in order to use braided line.......The diameter of the braid is too large for a spinning reel to handle...........In fact, I never use heavier Mono or Fluro Line on a spinning reel either. If I go higher than 12 lb,I use a baitcast reel. Quote
Shad_Master Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Oops! I almost made the same mistake, you are talking about spin-casting equipment (like Zebco's and such). I haven't done this but I think it would be a problem. The line is so limp, I think there would be a problem with the pick-ups getting the line back. I have used Power Pro on spinning gear and it does work, but you have to consider that the line diameter is much smaller than the test weight. Also, you will want to put a backing on the reel to avoid slipping. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 28, 2006 Super User Posted December 28, 2006 Welcome aboard! If you want to fish braided line it's time to move up to spinning tackle or baitcasting equipment. Spincasting reels are for basic beginners. The technology makes casting very easy, but improvements have not kept pace with the advances in other styles of fishing reels. Quote
Guest DavidGreen Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 Happy New Year! skinny, Welcome To The Forum! The use of braided line on a spin cast reel will work for awhile, but the abrasive nature of the line when used (dirt and grit in the fibers), can and will cut the pickup pins (unless they are metallic) over time. Tight Lines!!! Quote
