Captain Phil Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 Retirement is not for everyone. If you love your work, retirement can leave you feeling depressed. I retired twice. Once when I sold my company in 2001 when I was 54. I was too young to enjoy doing nothing. I got my Captains license and started a guide business. Wrong answer! Luckily my wife's real estate business took off and I became a Realtor. We sold lakefront homes and lots for 15 years. I discovered my fishing experience and knowledge of the lakes was in high demand. We both retired five years ago and we are enjoying it this time. Here is some advice I learned from first hand experience. When you turn 65 and get Medicare, buy the best supplemental health insurance you can find. You want to be able to go to any doctor you want. You do not want to pay for anything out of pocket. It's going to be expensive DO IT! I may not be here when this happens. If I am, you'll thank me later. 1 1 Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted May 11, 2024 Super User Posted May 11, 2024 Im 66. I retired at 63. I sat around for two months and decided to work part time, which I still do, about 20-24 hrs per week. I make some extra money this way, and stay active. 1 Quote

He still subs about 1 or 2 days/week for various school districts within 30 miles of his house during the academic school year. The need for substitute teachers is significant. He gets no less than 15 requests every single day. 2 Quote
