volzfan59 Posted April 18, 2024 Posted April 18, 2024 For you southern rock enthusiasts (like me) Dickey Betts passed away today. He was best known as a founding member of the Allman Brothers Band. He had his own band called Dickey Betts and Great Southern. RIP Dickey, thanks for the music and the memories! 2 Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted April 18, 2024 Super User Posted April 18, 2024 Oh man, that stinks. I think he was the last surviving member of the Allman Brothers Band, right? One of my all time favorite bands, and Betts was a brilliant guitar player. Back in the 60s my dad got into a Allman Brothers concert by telling the door man that he was Dickie’s cousin, and it actually worked. 1 Quote

volzfan59 Posted April 18, 2024 Author Posted April 18, 2024 @Jar11591, Jaimoe Johnson is still alive and well at 79 years old, he's the last of the founding members. He was one of the drummers. For those that might not know, the Allman Brothers Band always had two drummer's, Jaimoe and Butch Trucks. 2 Quote
cheezyridr Posted April 20, 2024 Posted April 20, 2024 as soon as i saw the title, i knew who you were posting about. he was the undisputed world heavy weight champion of the major scale. i guess some of you can remember that t-shirt from way back in the day that said "if there's a rock and roll heaven, they must have a hell of a band" and it has names of all the greats that are gone. 1 Quote
