Is the Texas Rig one of your confidence baits ?

Said it before, there are two setups on my deck 24/7/365. Texas Rig & Jig-n-Craw.

 

The T-rig is everything from weightless to a Punch Rig. A Punch Rig is nothing more than a T-rig on steroids!

There are numerous new and fun soft plastic technics now available. But the Texas Rig is the undisputed summertime confidence bait.

I scrolled up to see if this thread began on April 1.  I honestly would not have imagined that Texas Rig is NOT a confidence bait.  

  

 To those who say that jig is always fished where a t-rig might be used; is that always a skirted jig?

I have confidence in every lure I throw.  If I don't I won't throw it.

 

T-rigs are an excellent choice at times, depending on the lure hanging on the hook.

 

Sometimes there are better choices.  Every lure in the BPS catalogue will catch fish.  You just have to decide what, when, where.

 

I use my experience to determine (guess?) what is the right bait to use given the circumstances. 

 

Sometimes I'm right.  Sometimes I ain't, but I have confidence that what I'm throwing will catch fish.

 

There are lures and techniques I like to fish more than others, but sometimes pink Sluggos are what they want, or even worse, a drop shot.  I don't like to drop shot, but when I pick one up, I have confidence it will catch fish.

 

Learn to use every technique you can.  Sooner or later that will be what the fish want.

One of my favorite ways to catch bass because when they bite its bc I got them to based on how I am working the worm. It is deadly down here it Texas in the summer months.  Big worms catch big fish.

Every good "worm" fisherman I know, their #2 technique is a Jig-n-Craw.

 

Every good Jig-n-Craw fisherman I know their #2 technique is a Texas Rig.

I’m comfortable with a weighted Texas rig, and throw it when I have to. That being said, I much prefer open hooks and jigheads whenever I can get away with them. Maybe it’s a confidence thing, but I feel like a plastic on a jighead looks more natural, is easier to work, and transmits more vibration (that is, I can feel what’s on the end of my line better).

Both a weighted and weightless texas rig are definitely in my top 5 rotation for confidence baits. Not only does it produce consistently, it doesn't get snagged near as much as a jig. I will still fish a jig, just not as much.

I know the prevailing wisdom is that a soft plastic on a worm hook with no weight is not a true Texas rig. I call them a weightless Texas rig lol. And it’s a presentation that I fish a lot.

Well I thought I was just old fashioned. I throw them most every trip out.

T-rig is a hall of Fame technique, top 5 all-time.

BUT I have strayed and not been faithful to it..... give me a finesse worm on a .03 VMC crossover ring and 1/16 wacky hook.

Rarely do I miss a fish and the worm and ring potentially can last all day.

 

AND where are we fishing? Is it windy?

What depth? Water clarity ?

I'm predominantly fish gin clear water with very steep banks and the slow fall of a horizontal worm out fished a T-rig but a terrible choice in wind.

Yes been fishing with one for longer than anything else. 3/16 or 1/8 for shallow to medium. 3/8 to 1/2 for deep

Yeah it’s definitely a confidence bait for me.  It’s the first technique I ever learned, the only one I used early on, and it’s caught me a fair amount of fish. 
 

That being said if it’s not a confidence bait for you and/or you’re not catching anything with it, I wouldn’t worry too much about it so long as the techniques that you do use are working for you.

I always fish a Texas rig. Last year every Bass I caught was on a Texas rig. I have always loved crankbaits and spinnerbaits but they are not working for me like they did before.

Yes BUT from what I've seen it depends on the conditions. There are days when I've thrown a swim worm on a texas rig and had it do significantly better than a drop shot and a wacky rig. Then again there's others where it doesn't seem to work. Having said that one thing I like about a texas rig swim worm is you can go with something more "finessy" (yes I realize that's not a real word) or something with a little more thump like an ultravibe if the conditions aren't as clear...and you can bring a craw or a small yum dinger or something similar and hop the bottom so from that standpoint there are times when I feel like it gives you a few more options and the versatility itself gives me more confidence.
