livetoskate Posted April 16, 2024 Posted April 16, 2024 Been going through all my gear and have a couple rods trying to figure out what which of the reels I have to combo them with. So figured I’d get some opinions. The Phenix is definitely more slim and lighter. Rods: -New Daiwa 7’4” bladed jig/spinner bait rod TTU741HRB-G This rod will be used for both bladed jig and spinner. It’s the x45 Galtech material - New to me Phenix 7’ X-10 crank series CB704 This rod I want for squarbill cranks and smaller crankbaits. This is the both graphite composite & glass. REELS: The 3 lower gear ratio reels I have that am trying to decide which one for which rod are. -New to me Daiwa Tatula elite 100h 6:3 (Heard this one is great for long casts) -New to me Daiwa Tatula 100h 6:3 - Old but love this reel Shimano Chronarch Mgl 6:1 Got plenty of other rods aim currently swapping around as well 😂 Quote
FrnkNsteen Posted April 16, 2024 Posted April 16, 2024 Well,... If it were me, I would go with the Tatula Elite (over the Tatula 100) and the Chronarch MGL. My reasoning is you say you love the Chronarch MGL, and the Tat Elite is a better reel than the Tatula 100. As for which reel to put on which rod,.. Since both are 6spd reels, I would default to which one feels better on which rod. Reels can feel completely different based on the reel seat they are sitting, so try both on both rods and see what feels right! Quote

Was seeing how they felt on each rod earlier like you said and that’s likely the best bet . I have heard the Elite is superior caster. 1 Quote
Big Hands Posted April 17, 2024 Posted April 17, 2024 I have the a 7'4 Tatula Elite MHRB (TTEL741MHRB). I really like this rod. Much more than I thought I would. My favorite reel on it is a Curado 200K (6.2:1) with 15 lb Big Game monofilament. A reel that casts a mile and has a lower gear ratio is what I have liked the most with it. I have tried other reels just for S&G, but have settled on the Curado 200K. Soooo, I look to the Daiwa website to see how they might be similar or different. Now, this is typical Daiwa. The Tatula "H" rod is rated as 'Heavy' and for 1/2 to 1-1/2 oz lures, but for 12 to 20 lb line. Then the other Tatula (Elite) rods are rated as 'Medium Heavy' for 1/2 to 2 oz with 10 to 20 lb line, and finally a 'Medium Heavy' for 1/4 to 1-1/4 oz lures on 12 to 25 lb line. A MH rod is rated for 1/2 to 2 oz lures, while a H rod is rated for 1/2 to 1-1/2 oz lures. Maybe I am missing something in the translation. Maybe they have some rationale for what looks to be some conflicted rating criteria. Maybe. . . . It does give me pause to feel like I could suggest a 200K rather than a 150/100 size reel for what on the surface seems more similar than they actually are. Quote
KP Duty Posted April 17, 2024 Posted April 17, 2024 All those reels are adequate for the job at hand. I'd try each reel on both rods and see how each matches up with the reel seat and how each balances the rod. 4 Quote

Yeah it does seem wierd the way they’re rated but it feels/bends more like a medium heavy to me. Thinking I’m going to out the elite reel on it. Feels the best to me . 1 Quote
