Ski Posted April 16, 2024 Posted April 16, 2024 Practice started for the Harris Chain on April 8 with the first Tournament day scheduled for the 11th which was cancelled do to inclement weather so this gave them a day off, but also slipped the Championship for the Harris Chain till Monday 4/15. Monday 4/15 was day 1 practice day for the St.Johns event. So all anglers went straight North got there hotels or rentals and on to practice days for the St. Johns event. However the Anglers that fished on Monday's Championship day only gets two days practice. Just seems a little rushed seeing as the next event in S.C. doesn't start till 5/6 for Practice. What a grind!! 1 Quote
Susky River Rat Posted April 16, 2024 Posted April 16, 2024 No different than a pro hockey team, basketball, baseball. Travel, practice compete. They luckily do not have to do the driving on their own. Quote
Super User gim Posted April 16, 2024 Super User Posted April 16, 2024 I see the point, but the real problem is scheduling. I think they scheduled these back to back events in Texas earlier this season too with no layoff in between. Seems to me like they could spread them out a little more over the course of 7 months. 2 Quote
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted April 16, 2024 Super User Posted April 16, 2024 So were you a marshal during this last event? I'd really love to do that some day, need to figure out how. Quote
Ski Posted April 17, 2024 Author Posted April 17, 2024 I have done it in the past, My brother just did it on Harris with Hackney and a couple others. Easy really: First you must be a member of B.A.S.S. then on their web page select Tournaments then Marshall, all info and application will be found there. 3 Quote

For many (most?), this sort of grind is preferred to alternatives, like 2 separate trips to Florida with the cost and time away from home....or insert another week in between with its own costs and time commitment. Last year, one of the bass podcasts had a tournament organizer on who described in fascinating detail how hard it is to set up a schedule. I know how challenging it is just for a state or regional organization. National trails are a whole other level of logistics nightmare. 1 Quote
mfnew Posted April 18, 2024 Posted April 18, 2024 There was no practice on Monday for anyone. Practice days were Tuesday and Wed. only. 1 Quote

I’ve Marshaled at the Elites a few times and came away with a headache time! 😜 The amount of information that is 10 ft in front of you all day can be overwhelming. Each pro is different which can make your experience different. @Ski gave you how to start. If you get a chance do it. Each time was an experience in itself. Mike 1 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted April 19, 2024 Global Moderator Posted April 19, 2024 I would like to Marshall but only when they use the trolling motor. No way I’m riding in a boat at 70 mph 😂 3 Quote
