Swim jig rod?

What are you all throwing your swim jigs on? I’m talking shallow cover bushes, pads, lay downs with braid.

Shimano SLX MGL70XG 8.1 ratio reel mounted to a St. Croix Legend Tournament bass 7’1” mhxf. That rod is now discontinued and a fast action works well too.

I dont catch enough bass using them to merit a more expensive rod, but i still fish them alot because i think they are fun. Casts the lighter finesse ones-heavier ones with a huge trailer with ease and great distance. Rips out of grass/wood without issues.

I love throwing swimjigs, but I'm usually bomb casting in clear water with heavy vegetation.  I'm in love with a 904 from Loomis and a 5 power Dobyns for this.  Great tip/backbone ratio for me on the long casts.  Expride 7'3XH and PA 7'6XH if I'm banging 3/4-1oz jig heads in deep cover.

I've been very very happy with the hookset and hook penetration I get fishing swimjigs with the 'Frog' 7'6 MH/MF Abu Veritas PLX paired with the 8:3:1 Daiwa Fuego spooled with Berkley Big Game 15 lb.

 

Caught some dandies on that rig.

Zodias 6'10" MH F with 30lb braid. About to start experimenting with a TFO Professional 7' MH MF though. Want to see if I prefer the MF action. Have loved the Zodias though and used it for years now

Falcon cara swim jig rod mostly.  7'2" MH/F.  30 lb 832 braid.  Mine has a chronarch on it, but the reel is just personal preference.  That's for swim jigs 1/4-3/8 mostly.  If I'm throwing a heavier swim jig I'll throw it on the 7'4" Heavy Cover Jig, also in the cara lineup, and on 17 lb mono because that's what that rod has.

Falcon Swim Jig rod, the USA Cara ST version. Switched to using the ALX Dream and Deputy now and recommend all for throwing swim jigs. If using braid I would't go heavier power or else use a mod-fast action rod.

I like to swap things out and flip things around until I find a setup that stands out.

 

Right now I have a couple rigs set up for swim jigs. One is an older Kistler Zbone 7' MHMF with the NFC blank that has a Gen3 Revo STX and a Siebert's Shot Collar in Golden Shiner tipped with a Largo Shad.

 

The second is a GLX 783c MBR that I just picked up on ALF clearance. It has an Alphas SV 800 rigged with a Sieberts Mini Swim Jig in Sexy Shad tipped with a 2.75" Strike King Rage Swimmer. Light, comfortable and well balanced.

 

Don't know that I'm locked in on them, but liking them for now.

iRod makes a Swim/Vibrating Jig Rod that is very good. Loads a little weird on the cast IMO but hook to land ratio is fantastic. It’s a sleeper buzzbait rod too. 
 

There have been some times when I needed a little more power and for that I have used my regular jig rod. Whatever you use for bottom jigs should be fine in that case.

I use 2 rods for swim jig in Florida heavy hydrilla. Falcon Cara 6-174 heavy cover jig rod and a Trika 7’5”MHF and love both of them. If I need a heavy I’ll throw my Kistler KLX 7’6H.

don’t sleep on the HCJ as a 3/8 plus plastic Texas rig rod or as a buzzbait rod. It’s become my favorite buzzbait rod of all time now.

2 ALX , OXIM series rods,

1 is 7’1” MH fast with 30# braid

The quintessential swim jig rod to me has always been a Dobyns Champ 734c. Many other options work, but I’ve never felt the reason to change.
