canadabassfishy Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Hi all, I know that specialized rods are better but given my budget, I'd like to buy a decent rod that I can use for both finesse bass fishing and vertical walleye jigging (sorry for asking a part-walleye question in this community). For walleye jigging, I will be using mostly 1/4oz jigs. For finesse bass, I am talking about small nedrigs and dropshots. I came down to the following options: St. Croix Avid Spinning rod (ML / Fast) St Croix Eyecon Spinning rod (ML / Fast) - out of stock Daiwa Tatula Elite Spinning rod (ML / Fast) Fenwick HMG Walleye Spinning rod (ML / Fast) Fenwick Elite series (bass OR walleye, ML / Fast) All these rods are above 6'6" (I know longer rods are not the best for jigging but I need the rod for a general use). All prices are similar except Avid. I most likely will buy a 2-piece rod but also open to 1 piece rod. TlDR: I want a multi-purposed rod that is suitable for bass finesse and walleye jigging. Thank you in advance Quote

Super User Dwight Hottle Posted April 13, 2024 Super User Posted April 13, 2024 I would go with a ML/F in a 7'6" rod of your choice. I have had good success jigging with 1/8 or 1/4 jigs & the longer rod will work well with finesse baits. Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted April 13, 2024 Super User Posted April 13, 2024 This one will fish 1/16 to 5/8 oz and turn any fish you tackle. https://jdmtackleheaven.com/products/abu-garcia-xrossfield-baitcasting-xrfc-662ml-bf Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 If the bait and cover permit, any walleye and finesse bass tackle should be interchangeable 1 Quote

JackstrawIII Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 I use a 6'10 MLXF for my walleye fishing. Been very pleased with it. Also use it for dropshots when fishing for bass. Mine is an Ark and I love it, but I really like St. Croix also. Sure you'd be happy with one of those too, though I don't have the ones you mentioned specifically. Quote
