ABU is overpriced Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Been using the same few Shimano grease and Cal's grease for some time now. Tried the Daiwa 104 grease earlier this year, and its pretty good as well. What's y'all using? 1 Quote

MyKeyBe Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Super Lube. 40 wt. for spool bearings. 100 wt. for other bearings and level wind. Grease for gears. Quote
T2DM Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Was using Shimano star drag grease (ACE-2) for drag washer and gear set and sliding parts. Bantam 100 oil on spool bearings, ARB and everything else. Tried Super Lube NGLI-2 on gear set with good results. Tried Super Lube NGLI-0 or 1 on moving and sliding parts with good results. Tried Super Lube multi-purpose oil (part no. 51008) on ARB, level wind worm gear, pinion bearing with good results. Went back to using ACE-2 grease, Bantam 100 oil and didn't even notice the difference. I still like using the Super Lube 51008 on ARB instead of the Bantam oil though. Been experimenting with 75W-140 synthetic gear oil on pinion (X-ship) bearings and liking the results so far. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 In the grand scheme of things screen isn’t really a heavy duty application lubricant wise. All the products mentioned are good. I like yamalube or similar marine grease for the extra water resistance and Cals for drags where appropriate. Boca Lightning and tsi321 for spool bearings with heavy gear oil for frame bearings, level wind and sliding parts 2 Quote
TheWitness33 Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 I’ve used hot sauce and the new lews stuff. And cals for drag grease. Quote
Alex from GA Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Hot sauce for spool bearings, Corrosion X mixed with grease for everything else. Quote
redmeansdistortion Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Super Lube. I use ISO 10 on BFS spool bearings, ISO 22 on standard spool bearings, ISO 68 on spinning reel bearings, ISO 220 on frame bearings and level winds, NLGI2 grease on larger conventional reels and NLGI1 on baitcasters and and spinning reels. 1 Quote
FrnkNsteen Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Lately I have been using Cals drag grease on the gears and drags, 80/90 gear lube on frame bearings and either ReelX or Abu oil on the spools and levelwinds. Haven't really decided which I like better. The Abu oil is a little thicker I believe, but still casts fine. Thinking it may hold up longer and stay in place better. Quote
Super User webertime Posted April 13, 2024 Super User Posted April 13, 2024 Cals for drag Phil Wood grease for gears/clutch Rem oil for frame bearings Tsi 321 for spool bearings Quote
Cranks4fun Posted April 14, 2024 Posted April 14, 2024 I use Super Lube Grease on my gears and Any of several types of light oil on the bearings, Bushings, and shafts (3-in-1 oil, Shimano Reel oil, ABU reel oil, Rem-oil, etc.). I have no discernable issues with those. Quote

I look at this similarly. ISO hydraulic oils have all the rust and corrosion resistance additives needed. They are inexpensive and readily available. ISO 10 is in a lot of shops in the form of air tool oil. ISO 22= 10w motor oil, 68= 30wt , 220= 50wt or 90wt gear oil. Just for reference what someone might have laying around. 2 Quote

(snort) I finally ran out of my Abu oil this past maintenance cycle, so grabbed my air-tool oil...nice to know I made the right choice. Quote
