gdub17 Posted April 11, 2024 Posted April 11, 2024 What do you guys think of them? I’m currently using my time tested shimano Calcutta ct 50b on a 6’6” falcon lowrider medium-heavy action rod. I mainly fish lightweight soft plastics rigged Texas style. I also have an allstar 6’6”as well as some Daiwa model of the same length. The falcon has Fuji guides, Fuji reelseat and is super balanced. It seems pretty sensitive with a strong back bone. Do you think this rod fits my lure choice and presentation style or is there something affordable that would be better? Thank you Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 11, 2024 Super User Posted April 11, 2024 Falcon LowRiders are outstanding rods & will fit your needs I threw Allstar for years along with CastAway, both are highly overlooked. 2 Quote

Nothing fancy, but each offers excellent performance and good looking cork. Can't be touched at that price point IMO. I have started to build rods. The first I built had the guide train based on a Fuji concept that I now understand is the basis of the Lowrider: a guide train designed with a precise array of lower guides designed to control line flow in a way to squeeze maximum distance from casts. Yup, and it works as well as I expected 😀. 1 Quote

Solution river-rat Posted April 11, 2024 Solution Posted April 11, 2024 I have 9 Falcon Lowriders I use for everything from topwater to Carolina Rigs. Never had a problem with any of them. 1 Quote
Capt Steve Posted April 12, 2024 Posted April 12, 2024 They are good rods. I never use their casting rods, but when I was guiding, their spinning rods got used daily on my boat. They sometimes got a lot of abuse from customers but they stood up to the task. 1 Quote
swhit140 Posted April 12, 2024 Posted April 12, 2024 I use to have a couple Falcon rods and they are nice rods. I found that Falcon has excellent rod warranty for $25.00, just throwing that out there. 1 Quote

rangerjockey Posted April 12, 2024 Posted April 12, 2024 Good rod. I don't have any lowriders that were made after the transition to off shore manufacturing but I do have Cara's that are both USA made and offshore and I really can't tell the difference and I like the newer reel nut better. On a side note I'm hearing the old Falcon facility in Harrison AR. , which is now the shop that builds Virtus and the Made in the U.S. BPS rods has been sold to GSM outdoors. GSM owns Phenix so it stands to reason they may be making them there. As to Virtus, I have no clue yet if they will continue on. Quote

I had an expert amistad that I broke on a hookset last year. It was going on 2 years old so not a manufacturing defect and I told them so. They said send them the chunk of blank with the label and a check for $25. I asked if we could upgrade to a Cara and they said make is $75. Dead simple. Quote

The 2nd Cara was $20. Both were my fault and they were told such. Even at $100 that’s better than most companies. It’s why I have a rod locker full of Falcon and ALX. Both excellent companies to deal with. Quote
