13poundBLUEGILL Posted April 10, 2024 Posted April 10, 2024 Good morning, guys! I'm having trouble picking out a suitable reel for my newly purchased St croix legend extreme 6'10 medium extra fast, ill be using it for primarily wacky rigs, drop shot, some smaller finesse stuff. All of my casting reels are Daiwa and am having an issue deciding on a reel for the new rod. Let me know thanks! Quote

Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted April 10, 2024 Super User Posted April 10, 2024 Certate 2500 or 3000 size would be my pick if you want a higher end reel. 1 Quote
13poundBLUEGILL Posted April 10, 2024 Author Posted April 10, 2024 Thank you guys, not sure if i want to be in the 800$ range. Was definitely considering the taula Elite which is about 300$ right now. But the ones you guys suggested look beautiful Quote

Super User WRB Posted April 10, 2024 Super User Posted April 10, 2024 Shimano Vanford 2500 is very quite retrieve and smooth drag light weight reel. If you have large hands the stem is a bit short. The Stradic would be my 2nd choice. Tom 3 Quote
Brian11719 Posted April 11, 2024 Posted April 11, 2024 Congrats...that's pretty much my dream drop shot rod...if I was to pair it right now I'd go with a Shimano Exsence A (3000). They don't make a 2500 but even if they did I've noticed the 2500 and 3000 models seem to be about the same weight anyway...please keep in mind I've not actually used this setup before (only wish I had) but found myself asking what I would get for a drop shot rod / reel if money wasn't an option and this was it. Hope you enjoy it. Quote
Wprich Posted April 11, 2024 Posted April 11, 2024 A 3000 Shimano Exsence or Vanquish would look sweet on a Legend Extreme. Got a couple Exsence and I love them. 1 Quote

Super User FishTank Posted April 12, 2024 Super User Posted April 12, 2024 JDM Vanquish gets my vote. It's the smoothest reel for the money, IMHO. It's just a pleasure to fish. 1 Quote
