gdub17 Posted April 10, 2024 Posted April 10, 2024 I’m going with my brother to fish a local neighborhood shallow stained  water lake with minimal visible cover except for some dock pilings and tree stumps. We’ll be fishing for large mouth from the bank exclusively.  I typically fish with soft plastics Texas rigged pretty much always so I was thinking of throwing either a plastic worm, lizard or crawfish with a light 3/16 ounce bullet weight .  There is a cold front rolling through tomorrow but then it clears up nicely (too nicely maybe/ high barometric pressure) Thursday and Friday. I’d like to land at least a couple descent fish and not just practice casting for two hours. What other approaches or methods for success would you guys recommend we try if the soft plastic bite is non- existent? Thanks for any suggestions Quote

thediscochef Posted April 10, 2024 Posted April 10, 2024 chatterbait is also a good option for stained water, and don't be afraid to throw a buzzbait either. Sometimes in those conditions a little flash and crash is helpful. Key word there is 'sometimes' 3 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted April 10, 2024 Super User Posted April 10, 2024 Lipless crankbait or a swim jig. Quote

KP Duty Posted April 11, 2024 Posted April 11, 2024 I'll usually go around the pond pitching my creature bait or jig to any visible cover. Lizard would be a good choice right now. I'll then go back around the pond, churning up the water with a spinnerbait/chatterbait/squarebill. Quote

I usually throw the single Colorado for bream feeders and a double Willow for shad feeders. Maybe a dark skirt, sometimes the crush brighter colors. Quote

Super User Bankc Posted April 11, 2024 Super User Posted April 11, 2024 28 minutes ago, MAN said: 1/8oz Roadrunners....so you at least don't get skunked. Yeah, in a small pond, the bass probably aren't used to seeing large baitfish. And especially post cold front, the bass tend to get lethargic and hang tight to cover. So in both of those situations, something slowish and small would be good, in my mind. A Ned rig or drop shot might also be a good idea.   But really, the fish do what they want to do, not what they're "supposed" to do. So it's hard to say anything for sure until after you've tried it.  Quote
