Shinmothy Posted April 10, 2024 Posted April 10, 2024 Hi y'all, I currently have a 24 Daiwa Tatula 100 on a 7' 2" Shimano Expride MHF (sacrilege I know) that's currently serving as my do it all rod. I'm mainly throwing bottom contact stuff though like Texas rigs/Jigs. Occasionally I'll whip out the ol' rattle trap or a spinner if I feel like it, but those bottom contact baits are really where I'm confident. I'm currently running 12 lbs FC Sniper and it's done me well. It's really sensitive, and I treat it like crap but it's never broken off on me. It's about time to respool though I think, and I'm looking at some more options. Yozuri Hybrid stood out to me because of its unique properties combining the best of both worlds. Obviously, I'd be sacrificing some sensitivity, but I think it could let me also expand to some top water lures if I'm not mistaken because of its neutral buoyancy? Otherwise I think my other options are still fluro. I'm looking at Sniper again obviously, but open to trying any other suggestions y'all have. Another option that sticks out to me is Daiwa J-Fluro Samurai probably also 12lbs or so. Heard a lot of good things about it, and its around the same price as Sniper. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted April 10, 2024 Super User Posted April 10, 2024 While I'm a YZH fanboy - I don't use it for bottom contact...stick with FC for that. I've been using Tatsu (gifted) and InvizX (bought) - though this past Yule I was gifted some Spro Gouken and I'll be giving that a try. If Sniper has been working for you - why change what works? Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted April 10, 2024 Super User Posted April 10, 2024 Very hard to beat FC Sniper for anything but topwater. I'm also a big user of Daiwa J Fluoro and J Fluoro Hidden Concept for jerkbaiting. If you want a true jack of all trades setup, as much as I hate to admit it, FC isn't the best choice then. Quote

Just looking at YZH for more versatility really. Being able to throw top waters on this rod would be nice. Plus the cheaper price tag doesn’t hurt, but looks like I think I’ll be sticking to fluorocarbon I think. Quote
MediumMouthBass Posted April 10, 2024 Posted April 10, 2024 All my reels have either Yo Zuri Hybrid or braid, i fished with 100% fluoro setups only for years and it got expensive quick after breaking line on rocks or trees too often. I then switched to mono because of how cheap it was. I disliked fishing with mono quite a bit, just too much stretch and no sensitivity, but fluorocarbon being too expensive to go back to i didnt know what to do. Someone here was talking about Yo Zuri Hybrid so i did some research on it, and it sounded great. It takes everything i like about the 2 types of lines and combines it while not having what i dislike about them. I use it for almost everything from Finesse techniques, crankbaits, bottom fishing texas rigs and jigs, and bigger swimbaits too. It has just enough stretch for moving baits but stiff and sensitive enough for bottom baits. Abrasion resistance is amazing, i fish alot of pickerel and zebra muscle infested waters and it holds up better than what ive used so far. I only ever had this line break when i really wanted it to. Plus its really cheap and if you check the latest sale area on here i posted a place selling it for buy 1 get 1 free. Quote
Bass Rutten Posted April 10, 2024 Posted April 10, 2024 It all boils down to your personal priorities, personally I wouldn't compromise especially with one's highest confidence presentation, I'd first use or buy another setup for topwaters which really doesn't require high quality gear. That said, with yzh at about $7/spool it'd be a cheap scratch to itch. Quote

Yo-Zuri is a large diameter per lb test line about 25% larger then Sniper FC. Daiwa J- Samuari FC is good, Tom Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted April 10, 2024 Super User Posted April 10, 2024 It depends on how bad you want to use that setup for top water. Personally I use braid for top water and Yozuri and fluorocarbon for the rest. Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted April 10, 2024 Super User Posted April 10, 2024 YZH - combining the best of both worlds, so that your line excels at…..nothing 😝 You can still throw some topwaters effectively with fluoro (Buzzbaits, toads, ploppers, etc.). If you’re really stuck on adding in more topwaters than that, then default to a mono/copoly line like BG or Super Natural. Otherwise, I say stick with what's been working for you. JMHO Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted April 10, 2024 Super User Posted April 10, 2024 You may be able to work top waters with fluorocarbon but I can’t. 1 Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted April 10, 2024 Super User Posted April 10, 2024 I’ve used Yo for 20 years now, I don’t fish topwater much, occasionally throwing 1/4 pop r’s on spinning w 6 pound Pline. I’ll use Big Game as well although I prefer Yo and Pline. My advice is use what you can afford and be done with it. Good luck. Quote

Agree that anything that has to be stopped or paused like poppers, Spooks, Devil's Horses, etc. will get pulled under and won't work with fluoro. But, anything that constantly moves like the baits mentioned, I really don't notice much if any difference between the line types. In some cases, you could argue fluoro might actually be better because it helps keep the bait/nose down in the water a little bit and running properly. Just my experience as a nearly all fluoro user (baitcast gear). Quote
