zeppy Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 i know spinning rods have different reels than casting rods, but is there a huge difference betweent the two rods. What can be done with one rod that cant be done with the other??? Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted December 25, 2006 Posted December 25, 2006 I'm no expert but if I'm not mistaken don't spinning rods have larger guides than casting? At least the first one is quite a bit bigger I think. The reason I believe is becasue of how the line comes off of the reel. As far as action I'm not sure of the difference. reel placement might be soemwhat different as spinning is usualy a lot longer reel than a BC. I'm guessing that it throws off the balance. Great question always wondered myself. It'll be interesting to read the feedback. Quote
Brian_Texas Posted December 25, 2006 Posted December 25, 2006 The rod and reel of a spinning combo work together. For me a lot of has to with casting accuracy. You can be more accurate with spinning than with a baitcaster. You have more control as to were the lure or weight will land. I do a lot of light line finesse fishing and for light line sensitivity you cannot go wrong with a spinning rod. If you watch the pros on TV, you will see more and more are using a spinning reel. Most use it for small lures or small plastic baits. Again you get better presence with the smaller baits using a spinning reel. Quote
Guest DavidGreen Posted December 25, 2006 Posted December 25, 2006 Happy Holidays! zeppy14, To make a long answer short. The differences are the taper of the rod blanks. Next the reel seat used. Next the guides used. What can be done with one rod that cant be done with the other???Line and Lure ratings will be heavier for a baitcaster than a spinning rig.Tight Lines!!! Quote
