Both mono I currently use are thinner, and the Spro Finesse Braid is, shockingly, half as thick at .005". No clue. Never measured it, nor did sided by side comparisons. I use 18# Gliss and it is far thinner than anything else I've used around that test. Gliss spool says 18# is .006 in and .14mm. Spro finesse 16# spool says .22mm. I won't vouch for any of the numbers....just saying it seems thin to me. Quote

EDIT: Their webpage description is wrong! My memory was right, but their description vs. Spool label vastly different. Thanks for the correcting! Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted April 8, 2024 Super User Posted April 8, 2024 Well.. without units, I suppose the web page might have meant .010 barleycorns ...lol.... or any made up unit Quote

Whichever is available. Seems like I got a lot more breaks on the hookset with Stren, but that’s just me… I caught my PB with it though , so …🤷🏼♂️ 3 Quote
Woody B Posted April 8, 2024 Posted April 8, 2024 FWIW I thought I got a "bad spool" of line a while back. I buy BIG spools when I buy line. I was storing these spools in my boat, which sits outside, under a black cover. I believe after a while the line got hot enough to damage it. I threw that spool away and now keep my big spools inside my house. My reels are stored in my boat, but I change line often enough that I don't think heat is an issue. Quote
Super User WRB Posted April 8, 2024 Super User Posted April 8, 2024 Since Sunline Deifer Armilo is no longer available Maxima Ultra Green is a close 2nd, little more memory but very strong and abrasion resistant of equal diameter, Very low viability however. 5# is .008D 8# is .010D 10# is .012D Tom Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 9, 2024 Super User Posted April 9, 2024 Maxima has way more memory & a lot less abrasion resistance than Big Game. Diameter is the same as Big Game Big Game Maxima 10# = .012 10# = .012 12# = .014 12# = .013 15# = .015. 15# = .015 1 Quote

I’m not against using braid and I do for some applications but for soft plastics, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and all of my finesse applications, I use straight mono. I have good gear to make the fight in my favor and I have adjusted my casting, gear and hookset to match the qualities of mono. I have not found a reason to change. I too use EXCEL because it’s cheap and has, for the most part, performed well. I have had an occasional bad spool and you need to change it out a bit more regularly but at its price point (I got 300yard spools on sale for $4.50 a spool), it’s not bad. ive been thinking of ditching the over priced fluoro for the last couple years and going back to straight mono. then i fall victim to the hype machine and buy the flouro.you may have convinced me to do it. Hulkster Posted April 9, 2024 Posted April 9, 2024 Sufix Siege mono in smoke green is the best I have ever used. I use 6 pound on my spinning rig (1000 size nasci) and 12 on my baitcasting rig (200 size curado i) 3 Quote

Super User Bankbeater Posted April 9, 2024 Super User Posted April 9, 2024 15# Big Game for the reels that I use for jigs, heavy Texas rigs, and big moving baits. 10# Big Game for the reels that get used for light moving baits, and jerkbaits. Quote
CrashVector Posted April 10, 2024 Posted April 10, 2024 8# Mr crappie camo line is excellent stuff. 18 hours ago, Catt said: Maxima has way more memory & a lot less abrasion resistance than Big Game. flatcreek Posted April 10, 2024 Posted April 10, 2024 Big Game on all my baitcasters. i prefer Suffix or Sunline mono on spinning reels. 1 Quote
Super User bowhunter63 Posted April 10, 2024 Super User Posted April 10, 2024 I don’t know if anyone said this yet ,But ya Big Game all the way. They need to bring their hats back too . My favorite line 1 Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted April 15, 2024 Super User Posted April 15, 2024 I only use braid to leader on spinning reels. All my baitcasters (except my frog rod with 50 lb. Sufix 832 braid) are spooled with 15 lb. Sunline Shooter Defier, except for two older Black Max’s that still have 12 lb. Big Game. I love that Sunline mono. Quote
