Brian_Texas Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 I have been saving up and now I need some help on purchasing a top quality finesse spinning rod and reel. I have read a lot of the past forums and I see that the Shimano Stradic 2500FH is referred to a lot. Most of my finesse fishing is done with 6lb line. I do a lot of split shot and shaky head jig fishing. I live in Houston so I hear a lot about Kistler Helium rods since their factory is NW of Houston. Many people also mention St. Croix but if I'm going to put down some good money for a quality spinning rod and reel I need some recommendations from some fellow finesse fisherman. Only one day left till Christmas, I hope every gets the fishing gear they wished for. I appreciate everyone's help. Quote
cabela10 Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 I'd go with a Shimano Stradic 1000FH or 2500FH for finesse with the 6lb test you want to use. That 1000 size reel should be perfect, it's small, yet big enough to handle big fish. I've used St. Croix Premier Rods and they have worked great with my finesse fishing. I've teamed my stradic 1000 up with a 6'6" medium power/fast action. If you are going to use 8lb test, purchase the 2500FH series Stradic. It will hold more 8lb line. That's how I would do it, everyone will pick different setups. I am however switching over to Quantum Energy baitcasters and spinning gear, and switching my rods over to Falcon Rods. Won a Falcon Cara Rod in a B.A.S.S. fantasy fishing contest and I loved everything about the rod. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted December 24, 2006 Super User Posted December 24, 2006 If you like finesse fishing with light line you might want to take a look at the Ray Scott Rod. It is the best light line rod I have ever put in my hand. http://www.rayscott.net/sales/rod.php Partner that with the recomended 8.9oz Super Caster 225 and you have a perfect set-up. Super User 5bass Posted December 24, 2006 Super User Posted December 24, 2006 I've got a 6'10" G-Blank Medium, split rear grip,no foregrip,it's super-light and sensitive. If a fish even gets near my bait,I know it. http://www.imaginationbassin.com/gblanks.htm I've got a Shimano Stradic attached to it.....the Shimano Posse would be proud. Quote
Brian_Texas Posted December 24, 2006 Author Posted December 24, 2006 Five Bass Limit - I just visited the website for G-Blanks. Awesome pricing for a sensitive rod. How have you liked yours? What Stradic do you have paired up with yours. 6 to 8lb test is what I fish most. Thanks for everyone's help. BGB Quote
Super User 5bass Posted December 24, 2006 Super User Posted December 24, 2006 I have the 2500 on it,a 1000 would be a great choice also if you arent ever putting anything over 6# on it. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 24, 2006 Super User Posted December 24, 2006 My soft plastics rod is a St.Croix Legend Elite ES70MF. I think another option you should look at is the G.Loomis SJR843, IMX or GLX series. Although I prefer small diameter line fishing soft plastics, I like having something that significantly overtests. Give Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 a try. The diameter is .010" but the strength is over 11 lb test and it has very little memory. My combination was originally saddled with a Shimano Stradic 2500FH, I'm now using a Stella 2500FB. I like it quite a bit. Quote
blue cat Posted December 25, 2006 Posted December 25, 2006 take a look at the st. criox legend tournment shaken rod , i have one .very nice light tip with a nice back bone. i fish 6 lb on it with light plastics and small pointer 65 's. rating 6-10 i believe it is 6 3" nice for tight spots and spooky fish, i fish very clear california lakes. tight lines Quote
