Don't want this to be a thread about if FFS should be banned or not, or if it's good or bad for bass fishing.

Would like to see what everybody's thoughts are on Augmented Reality Glasses that will link to your FFS unit, and hopefully regular sonar units, which projects the screen onto your glasses while still allowing you normal vision.  And what you think the price of the glasses will be compared to 12" - 16" and now there's a 22" screen.  There AR glasses that you can already link to a phone or tablet that can watch HD video / play games or just roam the good old inter-web. The price like everything else ranges from $49 to $4k on Amazon.

There is a Elite Series Pro who "engineered" a working pair himself over the winter, and said he will use them during a Elite Series tournament this year. Probably in 1 or the next 3. So you know the Big 3 sonar companies are working overtime to be the first to bring these glasses to market. Knowing if 1 bass fishermen has something, then we all end up have to have it also. LOL

I myself don't run FFS, not because I'm against it or others using it. It's just not the style or type of fishing I like to do. And I really don't want to or can afford to put $10k - $50k+ of electronics on my boat.

But I would differently buy /use AR glasses linked to my regular sonar unit with Down/Side imagining. As it is getting harder and harder to see my sonar units display. Mainly the numbers like water temp, etc.  As some of the small print on my 70 flat screen at the house is hard to see. And I can't find a mount to hold a 70" screen solid on the front of my Ranger. lol

Sometimes I'm thankful for bank fishing because all of this cutting edge sonar stuff is getting out of hand. Not for any moral or pragmatic reasons. Just my brain ain't brainin' as fast as it did once

You don’t have to “rig” anything.

I posted on this earlier. Using the Garmin Active Captain app on my phone I can connect to AR glasses like XReal Air 2 glasses using direct connect, bluetooth or WiFi.

For now it’s just proof of concept as I have not invested in it. I would need prescription AR lens inserts and I have better things to spend my money on right now.

One drawback of FFS on a kayak is having to frequently adjust where the transducer is pointing. I have some ideas of how to do that with foot pedals both manually and remotely, but I’m it 100% there yet.

Well it's differently cheaper fishing from the bank... And with gas prices going back up over the stupid per gallon mark is not help cost per fish avg...lol

But that's another reason why I don't have FFS. Cost is the biggest reason, with not the way I want to fish. But then you realize how much time is needed to really learn and understand how to use it and be good at using it is differently not how I want to spend days on the water.

I take your Garmin is a Echomap (new/old version) with Down and Side imaging..?? And you were just using the Active Captain app connect the glasses to the unit...?? This I would be interested in as like you my eyesight is getting worst by the day it seems..

From what little I've seen/watched on guys using FFS the frequently moving of the transducer by using the TM to pin point the targeted fish deep and direction it's looking /moving is why you know see 2-3 transducers on the front of boat and 2 more on the back shooting to boat sides of boat. Along with trolling now also being mounted the Power Poles. (Professional boats) That's why just the electronic cost of these guys boats if $50k+ .

Cost is the only reason I don't have a glitter bug with FFS and Augmented Reality glasses 😅😅 I'd have it if I could afford it

I don't know what you would see through the glasses, but it sounds like a good way to step off the side of the boat.

You can see everything. The projection is translucent.

I have both the DI/SI and FFS.

I have not purchased the glasses yet but have researched what needs to be done to make it work. The key is that Active Captain makes this possible as with the glasses I mentioned you can port anything on your phone screen to the glasses.

If Lowrance or Humminbird don’t have a similar app I’m not sure how to do it. I haven’t researched it.

I have experience with Microsoft HoloLens glasses in the construction AR environment. No vision obstruction when overlaying a 3D BIM model on the glasses out on the job site. If things are headed the same place as construction, there will be Everywhere Facing Sonar with multiple transducers mounted around the boat with the angler wearing AR glasses. Wherever you look you will see something like the current FFS live images. Eventually the image will just look like you are seeing through the water and watching the fish swim around. There will be no need to screw around trying to just the direction of a single transducer. Just look where you want to see. Hololens are in the $5-6k range. But you would not need a 10+” graph for livescope anymore.

That will alleviate a lot of neck pain and bad posture. It’s coming…
