TheWitness33 Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 I have a 2014 zillion which I threw in carbontex drag washers when it was new (I don’t remember if the stock ones were CF, it was just a habit I got into swapping drag washers out for CF). I just bought a 2024 PX BF 70. Daiwa states “advanced carbon washers” which I assume are CF washers. I remember reading somewhere the CF washers aren’t prone to being flattened by leaving the drag on. So… I’m coming to ask if anybody has experienced drag “fade” from leaving their daiwa CF drags on? I leave my rods/reels in my car so I can stop off whenever and as habit leave my drags loose which causes the rods to eventually cross up and tangle lines. If I could keep them taught it would lessen or eliminate they. But I don’t want to at the cost of my drag stack. Quote
Lead Head Posted April 5, 2024 Posted April 5, 2024 I can't answer your question, but I will suggest some cheap rod sleeves to prevent line tangling. You can cut the tip to fit how you like, then use heat shrink tubing to make a new tip. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted April 5, 2024 Super User Posted April 5, 2024 Smooth Drags. I always back off the drag tension and reset before fishing. Tom 2 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted April 5, 2024 Posted April 5, 2024 It’s not critical if you’re not locking the drag down, which I discourage. But there are spring washers to consider as well. Loosening the drag can’t hurt and is good practice to be in the safe side. You should pull some drag before fishing to be sure nothing is stuck. 1 Quote

Nope, it's always been a habit of mine to back them off all the way. But besides knowing that the CF drag washers are better in every way possible, greased or dry, i don't know the longevity with the drag engaged. Locking down the drag has never been something i've done. They're meant to be a "clutch" not a brake. Quote
