My spinning reel makes a clicking noise at the lowest and highest points when my spool goes up and down. I saw on another thread that its from an screw on this oscillating piece that is loose, so I tried tightening it and turns out it was tight, so I don't even know why its clicking but anyways when trying to put it back together I had this spring that I needed to put in place and I cant get it into place and I just want to know if anyone knows how to do it. I even bent the spring trying to put it back into place. I somehow always try fixing something little and I make it way worse. The spring is highlighted in the photo and the area it needs to go has an arrow pointing towards it.

I would help to know the brand and model of the reel - getting a schematic would be my first move.

All spinning reels have the same basic setup. Once you've worked on one, you've worked on them all (with SOME exceptions). That spring is for your anti reverse. I made a red representation (lol) of the spring where it should go. Place it on the little nub of the anti reverse (white piece) bearing housing and then try to compress and slide it in on the other side with a small pick or flathead.

Yeah I did that but I am having trouble keeping it in place. I put it in and then tried spinning my reel and the spring flew out lol. Do I have to put it all together before touching anything? Thanks!

It’s a dobyns 2500 spinning reel. I can take a pic of the schematic when I get home

Yes, the top plate (I assume there’s a plate that goes over that) retains the spring inside that cavity.

As you reel with it off, the pinion and drive gear both want to move up which pushes the ARB bushing and ARB up.

oh, I see. This thing is a real pain to get in there. it doesn't help that this spring is all bent also.

Which way is the bar that sticks out supposed to face?
