The Fort Worth Chiefs.

I was kinda thinking of the days of George Allen vs Tom Landry when I first read about it. Sumptin to keep things interesting leading up to the draft. St. Louis might still be prepared to build a football stadium for a team looking for new digs.

They'll still be the Kansas City Chiefs, it'll just be KCK instead of KCMO.

I like Nix but not being able to trade down because Falcons took Penix kind of stings.

6 QBs in the first 12 picks?  I definitely did not see Atlanta taking Penix after they had just signed Cousins to a 4 year deal.

The Raiders obviously wanted a QB too and there weren't any left when their 13th pick came up.

Tells you how dire the need is at QB for quite a few teams.

It's a QB league for sure but college success does not equate to NFL success as we've seen so often.

The Penix pick was crazy and its the reason I think Denver had to take Nix at 12 instead of trading back to get extra picks. The no defensive players until the 15th was wild.

No one can figure it out.  Even now.  You sign the top free agent QB to a 4 year deal and then draft a 23 year old with the 8th overall pick?

Don't get me wrong, I like Penix.  He has potential.  But being that he's already 23 (and turns 24 in less than 3 weeks), the earliest he would even see the field in Atlanta is when he's 26, which is when Cousin's guaranteed money is up.  Certainly they aren't going to even consider starting him over Cousins.  Otherwise they wouldn't have signed Cousins to a lucrative deal in March.

Someone misfired on that one.

WR Justin Jefferson has signed a 4 year/$140 million deal today, with $110 mil guaranteed.

This contract makes him the highest paid non-QB in NFL history.

I am working in the wrong field...

$110 Mill guaranteed is just crazy . Good for JJ though, he's obviously the best WR in the game.

If they fail again you can always root for the Texans.

Green Bay training camp day 4, long session today in the sun and heat.

Special teams practicing the new kickoff situation, strange the way it looks when they line up 5 yards from each other and have to wait untill the player catches the ball or when it hits the ground before they can move.

Kicks that go directly into the endzone on the fly or squibbed into the endzone are placed on the 30 yard line. Also practicing field goals from 50 yards out.

This truck is parked at the hotel and is being driven as the guys work truck, its licensed and up to date tags.

The Packers signed Jordan Love to a $220 million/4 year contract extension.  $75 million of that is signing bonus and his annual salary comes out to $55 mil/year.

Seems a little steep to me given he's only played one full season there.

It is!

The guy sits for 4 yrs and has a great 8 games!! That’s nuts

Which makes even less sense than what Lawrence got.

Hope over results I guess

The next guy up mentality for qb regardless of talent level or experience is gonna make the bench that much more critical with a salary cap structure.
In a few years the mid 50’s will be common with a few breaking 60.

The owners have no one to blame.
But everyone thought when Cleveland gave a fully guaranteed contract that other teams would follow, but that hasn’t happened and doubt it will.

Don't be surprised that at some point the owners will try to push for a position slot structure similar to what they do now for rookies. (You heard it here first 😜)
They might not get it in the next CBA but eventually they’ll have too.

Go Bears!!

Probably the homer in me, but I see it differently.

Love sat for three years, learning firsthand from one of the best to ever play the game.  He had a somewhat weak first half a season but still had an overall better season than 2/3 of the league's QBs by most any measure.

Every contract should be hope over results.  Doesn't do any good to pay a premium for past performance.

The cap hits are actually pretty reasonable.... for now: 21M this year, 30M next, and 36M in 2026, 43M in 2027.  It's not like they sold the farm for next few years.

Sure, every team would love to get a stud starting 3-4 yrars on a rookie contract.  How often does that happen?  Stroud isn't exactly a regular phenomenon, that you can replicate....

sorry Chicago... your new owner is every bit as likely to have a great career as your next QB.  Difference is one organization develops great QBs, the other... uh... doesn’t

I guess they probably had no other choice.  He was holding out until he got paid so it was either pay him or start someone else.  That someone else is clearly a worse option, whoever it is.

I can't argue that he had a solid second half of the season and opened some eyes at Dallas in the playoffs.  I would just look for a bigger sample size than one full season though before offering him one of the top salaries in the entire league.  He could easily regress.  In fact I would say that's likely.

The road map for QB success is generally to have a young QB sit for at least a full season behind a veteran.  Rarely do rookies come in and light it up.  Patience is key.  But most fan bases and teams don't have that luxury.  They need a competent version right away.

I will forever blame the Ravens and Joe Flacco for these ridiculous QB contracts.
