guidoStow Posted April 3, 2024 Posted April 3, 2024 Greetings! I have seen conflicting info about this combination. The Motorguide website lists this prop as compatible with the XI3, but the package says for 36v motors only and one review claims it cooked the wiring for his motor. I'm hoping the packaging warning is for older motors, but would not like to fry my rig testing it... I'm using it on a very light boat so the static load would be quite low and very rarely use the motor over 50% power. I would appreciate any experience that could be shared! Quote
airshot Posted April 3, 2024 Posted April 3, 2024 Electric motors are tricky, over proving will overheat them, no tech or rpm setting to watch like on a gas motor. On my MK electric, I just removed the "weedless" prop as I don't fish weeds and the " power prop" did make a noticeable improvement without stressing the motor. 1 Quote

No Worries! I appreciate the help! I just wish a MG user with actual experience using the prop could contribute. Quote
Solution guidoStow Posted April 7, 2024 Author Solution Posted April 7, 2024 Not getting a solid report on the compatibility of the aluminum version, I played it safe and went back the the glass-filled resin version... Quote
airshot Posted April 7, 2024 Posted April 7, 2024 It may fit, but will it stress the motor itself ?? I am told that you can check the amp draw with the factory prop then check the draw with the aftermarket prop. As long as the draw doesn 't go high your good. Now, I am no electricain in any form, it sounded logical but never tried it. In my case both power prop and weed less prop were options on my motor. MK stated I wouldn't see much difference, but there was a big difference to me, more bite in the water with the weedless. Just some food for thought !! 1 Quote

Some factory sources say it is a fine combo, some say not. Oh well... Quote

Go directly to the factory and ask, if they tell you it is compatible with your model number, save that message just in case and go for it !! I didn't realize it was a factory prop. When I contacted MK on my prop, they said it wouldn't make much difference, but getting rid if the weed less prop made a big difference !! Quote
