Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted April 27, 2024 Global Moderator Posted April 27, 2024 Hunt 2: A calm warm morning so expectations were high. We get out to our spot, as daylight is starting to creep up on us, I hit a crow call with no answer. Once we hit legal shooting hours I hit the diaphragm call and get a couple responses in the direction of the big white pines where I figured they’d roost. As I talk back and forth with the 4 or 5 gobblers for a good 20-30 minutes I’m noticing the sky turning dark off to the west. We heard some thunder rumbling off in the distance but they’re still talking and don’t seem to be moving too much. Things seem to be going according to plan from my previous post. A little while later the rain starts to roll in as predicted….it’s game time! The light rain turns into a downpour and the Toms go silent! After a good soaking and no end in sight we decide to take shelter in a nearby deer shack. Eventually the rain stops and we head back out into the wild to see if they’ll fire back up. We hit the calls a couple times and get a response both times but they’re further away than before. We give them a little time, try again, and they’re further away! Once the rain was done they headed out to the field which we can’t hunt. Soaked and cold we decided to call it and go for a drive which confirmed my suspicions they headed to the field. There they were in a freshly tilled field all fanned out! The hunt wasn’t successful in terms of a filled tag, but was successful because 6poundbass got some close gobbler action. The season’s still young. 1 Quote

Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted May 19, 2024 Global Moderator Posted May 19, 2024 @gimruis we haven’t been out in quite a while. My son has the license (I’m regretting not getting one). He’s been busy on the weekends doing various things with friends so we haven’t been out. There was one weekend I couldn’t get his butt out of bed. The weather is warm now and I’m seeing the Tom’s with hens now so I’m not getting a license myself. Next weekend is a long weekend and our last for the year so we’ll see what happens. Next year…. I’m getting a license! 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted May 29, 2024 Author Super User Posted May 29, 2024 Whoa. That would get my attention. I've had coyotes come into my setup more than once but a big kitty is a whole different predator class. 1 Quote
