Group 24 to group 27 Trolling motor batteries

I have a 2000 Triton TR 20 I have converted from 24 volt to 36 and used group 24 batteries, its time for new ones and the type I want I can only find in group 27 which are too long for my battery tray, I read somewhere to cut the end of the tray and use ratchet straps to secure them. Where would I attach the ratchet straps? The battery space is really tight and hard to reach. Thanks for any advice.

If you get agms you can put them anywhere you like because they don’t leak.

Just not upside-down...

Battery trays are removable and usually installed lengthwise. Measure the space and check if the battery trays can be installed sideways for 3. Group 24 & 27 are usually the same width.

Cutting the tray ends off negated containing spilled fluids, not an issue with AGM’s.

Going Lithium resolves the problem with 3 ea 50AH but pricey!

Ifn you can afford lithium and a new charger. Get a new battery tray and and group 31 Everstart batteries from Walmart 4-6 year life for all your needs including starting your big motor.  However not sure what they can do for all the modern electronic marvels needed for fishing but basic electronics and and livewells they’re fantastic

With the 70 lb group 27 batteries lithium is the way to go.  The footprint for lithiums can also be smaller.  50 ah lithiums will run your trolling motor all day and then some and the price can be very little more or the same if you shop carefully.
