Super User FishTank Posted December 19, 2006 Super User Posted December 19, 2006 Picked up a St. Croix Avid 6' ML spinning rod tonight with some Christmas cash. I will be pairing this up with a Quantum Energy Pti 20. What do you guys think of this match? I will be using this set up for bank fishing Rapala shad raps, weightless worms and some light weight spinners. Thanks for again for all your opinions. Quote
Guest avid Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 very nice rod. good luck and have fun Quote
mike bat Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 thats a killer rod ,,,, i have a 6ft3 legened elite med lit .... killer rod i use mine for bass or trout .... but mainly bass .... ;D Quote
cabela10 Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 Sounds like a great setup. Tell me how you like that Energy PTi 20. I'm thinking of switching to those or the 30's. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 21, 2006 Super User Posted December 21, 2006 I have an Avid AS66MLF. Although it is a very nice light rod, I think you will find that the tip is too soft for fishing soft plastics. The rod is better suited for light, hard lures and live bait. Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted December 21, 2006 Super User Posted December 21, 2006 Well I was gonna get the Avid 6'6" ML for split-shotting and worm & jighead fishing...now I'm rethinking. Thanks RW Anyone have any experience with the Avid 6'9" ML X-fast rod? Quote
Super User FishTank Posted December 22, 2006 Author Super User Posted December 22, 2006 RW, Thanks for the info. Do you a suggestion on a spinning rod 6' or 6'6'' for weightless soft plastic, either a Loomis or St. Croix? Quote
mike bat Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 i had a avid 66 med . and i used to toss senkos with it .... caught tons of bass on that rod bigguns too... ;D Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 22, 2006 Super User Posted December 22, 2006 The Avid AS60MF or AS66MF in the St. Croix line-up. ($160) If you go with G.Loomis, SJR783 IMX series which is going to cost you a little more. ($235) If you keep and eye on the Flea Market section here at BassResource.com, you can probably get a better price. Quote
Guest DavidGreen Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 Happy Holidays! FishTank, Just built a 3S70MF (AS70MF) blank for a PTi20. The client is using it for DS, SS, and Shakey Head fishing. The same client is using a PS70MF for the same techniques, say's the Premier is well worth the money. BTW the reel balanced very well on the rod. Tight Lines!! Quote
Super User FishTank Posted December 23, 2006 Author Super User Posted December 23, 2006 RW, I hate to say it but I already have a St. Croix AS66MF. I love this rod. I have been using it with an Energy 20pti and a Shimano Sustain to through 5'' senkos. I am getting another 20pti from wife for X Mas (she does not know that I know). I hope I have a nice day to try it after X Mas. I think this will be my last spinning set up. Baitcasters have become my favorite. I guess I have been converted. Thanks for the input to all and have a Merry Christmas. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 23, 2006 Super User Posted December 23, 2006 Well, than you know what I mean. The MLF is a fine rod, it's just better for certain applications. Merry Christmas to you, too! Quote
