Don't wanna post up the Andrew Upshaw video as it might get removed, but it's easy to find on youtube.   Then you can see Bryan New's hot take on his Facebook page.

Long story short Bryan New according to 4 witnesses intentionally blew out a bedding fish area so others in the area didn't have a shot at the 6lb fish after he left without catching it.

Upshaw was in the same creek along with another angler and their co anglers.    Upshaw reported the event to Hank the derby director, and some are calling him a snitch.

My take is good for Upshaw and it's actually in the BASS rules that if an angler sees a fellow angler commit an infraction, they're obligated to report it.

He actually admits to doing it on facebook, that was the thing that convinced me.

"The short version of what happened was that there were several of us in a giant pond bed fishing. We were all about 75-100yards apart from each other at the time.

I finished trying to catch a fish, I couldn’t catch it because it was real skittish and I couldn’t see it that well, I trolled up to the bed to see if it was still thereand it wasn’t.
I then hit my trolling motor to go to another fish in the pond.
I was right by the bed when I did this and I thought it might churn up the water and make it harder for the next guy to catch it."

Bryan New seems to be in the wrong at the very least for being kinda rude and unprofessional.

Makes me not respect or like him at all and if he's breaking rules then he should be DQ'd.

Andrew Upshaw has always struck me as a straight shooter and he essentially has nothing to lose or gain in this and the story was corroborated by 4 people.

Case closed.

There's really no drama here. Dude acted unethically and violated the rules and got caught.  Then admitted to doing it, claiming he didn't think it was against the rules, as if that's a legit reason to act like a tool.

Moving on.

No interest here one way or another, but I found the timing of this story a bit ironic as I was listening to the BAD podcast a few days prior. One of the discussions was on ‘Is bass fishing a professional sport?’ One of the arguments for why it IS NOT was because there is no defense involved, to which someone immediately brought up the David Dudley incident many years back (similar bedding situation and outcome), to which the person agreed that that would be a case that met that definition. However, they struggled to come up with other scenarios of how an angler could play ‘defense’ in a tournament scenario.

Their point being golf isn’t a “true” professional sport either 😉 Not much different than fishing. You hit a ball, walk to the ball, then hit it again - unlike boxing, basketball, baseball, football, soccer, hockey, etc. which all involve a ‘defense’ of some sort.

So corn hole is a sport because you can play defense…..we’re doomed!

Well that’s just nonsense, golf is indeed a professional sport

That may be true, but in no way, shape, or form are the participants athletes.  Because this overweight, drinking, smoking dude can win on the biggest stage.

Yeah, just like bowling, too 😆

It was just a point being expressed on a podcast as to what defines a professional sport, and then whether fishing is one or not. I tend to side with the ‘No’ camp myself, FWIW.

I used to have a friend that based the definition of a ‘sport’ on whether the outcome and results could be measured/timed definitively vs. judged. In his instance, fishing was a sport, but things like gymnastics, diving, boxing and ice skating weren’t.

Track and field, the original sport, no defense. Sounds like a podcast I don’t need to listen to 😂

I’m sure they won’t miss you, but it does have it’s moments, and some pretty good guests and discussions.

Discus, hammer throw and Javelin were originally weapons of war!  Is it a pro sport when you only have an offence?

NFL is heading that way. It'll be two hand touch soon.

@T-Billy, funny part about that is all the low scoring this year. They legislated defense out of the game and it still dominated

New has always seemed like a good dude and has always had a good reputation among the other anglers from what I always gathered. Kind of a dirtbag move but I tend to believe he didn’t know it was against the rules.
