lunkerboss923 Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 Can somebody explain to me why somebody would buy a $500 reel for jerkbaits and finesse applications? Why wouldn't they release a more versatile reel at that price? Maybe I'm way off on this. What am I missing? Can a Shimano Fanboy shed some light on this. Thanks 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 24, 2024 Super User Posted March 24, 2024 Are you asking about features or are you worried about what someone else does with their money? 1 Quote

Thanks Maybe I'm ignorant, but I don't see why it's strictly finesse. Most of my reels are 70 size and cover pretty much everything outside of swimbaits and deep cranking. But I get where you're coming from in terms of price. The upper upper end of shimano/diawa are diminishing returns. What I really want is for digitaka to carry left handed 22 bantams. scott 1 Quote

Features correct me if I'm wrong but isn't a 70 mgl Spool made for lighter Finesse or pitchin and flippin? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 24, 2024 Super User Posted March 24, 2024 That wouldn't preclude it from other applications, making the reel more cost effective. Quote
Cuddy Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 I would say that the 70 MGL spool would be "better" applicable for finesse and flipping/ pitching but it can still be used to cover other techniques. As for price, weekend warriors like myself buy it used or from Japan websites because it is cheaper. I paid $200 for my lightly used Met 2020 and it isn't worth the $450+ IMO. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted March 25, 2024 Super User Posted March 25, 2024 I use mine for spinnerbaits but wouldn't hesitate to use it for jigs or countless other things. $500 is a big price for any real, but if you order from Japan it's a little less painful at around $350. 1 Quote
GetFishorDieTryin Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 I take a size L glove, but I don't have big hands so I love little reels. They're great for jigs or anything where I want sensitivity. The downside is they always come with short handles and small knobs, not ideal for taking up line. Quote
