BassSteve Posted March 23, 2024 Posted March 23, 2024 Hey, So that metal/brass collar that is in the brake case assembly that fits into the spool when you put the side plate back on for shimano reels....should I be adding a small drop of oil to that or a bit of grease? I just realized when I was maintaining a couple reels I left that collar alone/dry. Thanks Quote
T2DM Posted March 23, 2024 Posted March 23, 2024 I know it's an older SVS infinity brake blocks in the video below, but I do this to my reels once in a while. WARNING: Reel could backlash a few casts after doing this so make sure the brakes are at max after oiling. 😁 (just my experience). 1 Quote
newapti5 Posted March 23, 2024 Posted March 23, 2024 As Shimano reel manuals mention, add one drop of oil to the brake drum before trips. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted March 23, 2024 Posted March 23, 2024 Just a film of light oil. Never grease. Keeping the brake cone clean by swabbing with alcohol also keeps them working and quiet 1 Quote
