CrashVector Posted March 23, 2024 Posted March 23, 2024 Picked one up this morning. 6'8" MH/XF. It's not the lightest rod I own, but it's the lightest one under $200 for sure. I paid $139 before tax with a trade in coupon. Imo, it's a super good rod for $140. I have no idea what bps' RT ratings mean, but it says it's made of "RT5 Graphite" as opposed to the new carbonlite rods' RT4. It was plenty sensitive. I paired it with a new gen Revo SX I just threw it in a small pond that doesn't have any bass in it just to see how it handles. It threw a pit boss with a 3/16 weight really well, and I could easily feel the pebbles on the bottom. Pretty good so far, I'll update when I actually catch a fish on it next week. Anyone have any idea what modulus that BPS uses for their RT ratings? 2 Quote
zell_pop1 Posted March 23, 2024 Posted March 23, 2024 If only they made them with full cork handles I would have bought one too. I have ST Croix SCIV rods I bet these are just as sensitive. Quote

There just something special about how a cork-handled rod feels However, I can vouch for how comfortable the cork split grips on the signature are...and the winn grips on the carbonlite rods are like heaven. Super User dodgeguy Posted March 23, 2024 Super User Posted March 23, 2024 they were better last year when they had fuji alconites. now they are aluminum oxide which is a downgrade. a lot of rods in the 250 range have done this.the blanks are awesome. buy a dobyns sierra microguide instead. Quote

Yeah I noticed that as well. These are the first BPS rods I've ever owned. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted March 24, 2024 Super User Posted March 24, 2024 The guides being downgraded is what stopped me from buying another. The sierra is lifetime warranty and a nice rod in that range. O just bought a halo HFX to try out. 1 Quote

Super User dodgeguy Posted March 24, 2024 Super User Posted March 24, 2024 Not when they slide by cheap guides. I rather pay more. They arent fooling me. St Croix is doing the same thing on some of their rods. So are other manufacturers. 1 Quote

Probably figure it's better to keep price down. I can understand that on a rod under $200 but not over $200. BPS should have made them 189 with the alconite guides. Quote

Not picking on Dobyns but I'd be surprised if he has over $ 80 in a Sierra when it hits the store shelf. Quote
