MiceNReets Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 Anyone have any real world experience with the Mojo Bass Trigon 6’8MXF (pinpoint) or Victory 6’8MXF (tactical) spinning rod? What are your thoughts? Looking to get one for my kid. Quote
Brian11719 Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 Two very different rods depending on how they are going to hold it. I have used a couple different mojos (the old model) and just got a victory and really like their spinning rods in general. The 6'8" mxf spinning models are meant for targeted wacky rigs and work well as a hard jerkbait / popper rod so that seems like it might be a good fit for your kid. If it were me I'd take them to the shop and then see if you can put a spinning reel on one and have them hold it and then go with the one that feels best for them. In my case the new mojos look great to me but the handle placement doesn't line up with how I prefer to hold a spinning rod most of the time (which is the same way I hold a casting rod) so I opted for the victory with my latest one. In terms of the rods / blanks themselves I like their spinning lineup the most out of pretty much anything out there (I've tried a few others around this price point). They also have a good warranty program. Have had to call them twice now and while it took them a little while to get back to me the first time they got back to me right away the second time and gave me a great deal on an upgrade to the victory I mentioned. There's also a very useful catalog in this thread here that you might be interested in if you haven't seen it already: 1 1 Quote
MiceNReets Posted March 22, 2024 Author Posted March 22, 2024 Thanks for the reply. This is what I needed. I have an option from St Croix for an upgrade to either the Mojo Bass of Victory rod. Was thinking the Victory is a no brainer with the price difference but the mojo bass trigon has me curious. But also curious if anyone has comments on the 6’8MXF. It seems like a do a lot of things rod but I haven’t found any reviews on that particular blank. I have the 7’3 MXF spinning rod and like it a lot. I also like your suggestion to bring the kid to the store to try both rods. I’ll have to bring him tomorrow to see if we can hunt a couple down. Quote

I'm already considering another one after getting this one. Might have to wait a bit for a sale somewhere but pretty sure most of my spinning rods are going to be in this line up from now on. I still like the mojo line and the 7'2" mojo moderate spinning seems like it would be awesome for lighter crankbaits for people that aren't stubborn like me and don't hold the rod with most of their hand under the reel. The grip for the mojos is also a little different for their casting lineup so I might give one of those a try at some point. Hope the kid catches a lot of fish with whatever you go with. Wish I could get mine to go with me but she seems to have a bit of a fish phobia at the moment... Quote
MiceNReets Posted March 23, 2024 Author Posted March 23, 2024 You have to bring them in the river to get over the fish phobia. I was lucky last year that he loved fishing so much. So I’m hoping this year it’s the same. I told him “to catch a fish you have to think like a fish and that begins with getting in the water with the fish” Seemed to do the trick. Couldn’t get him out of the dang river 1 1 Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted March 23, 2024 Super User Posted March 23, 2024 I love the 68MXF blank and have it in a couple of their lineups. Excellent wacky senko rod but also works well with other finesse techniques. IMO it's one of their best rods. 2 Quote
MiceNReets Posted March 23, 2024 Author Posted March 23, 2024 Case closed. Ended up going with the mojo bass trigon. Checked both the trigon and victory in store and felt the victory was the better deal but the wife and kid both felt the mojo bass trigon was meant for their hands and much more comfortable. 2 Quote
MiceNReets Posted March 26, 2024 Author Posted March 26, 2024 Ok… case open again! 🤦🏻♂️ so I have a 6’8MXF mojo bass trigon on the way from St Croix. Now I need for it or so I think. 🤷🏻♂️ I was looking at the Shimano Miravel 2000 size but then stumbled upon the Ultegra 2000 size. My spinning reels I only have are Stadic FL which I think are the best for the money. However, this new rod is for the wife to use and possibly the kid. So I’m looking at the Miravel and Ultegra to be a little cheaper by a few bucks. Does anyone have any input on these 2 reels they can offer and why they prefer one over the other? Right now they’re a pretty good deal from Japan. It would be a $12 difference for me. Is the Ultegra worth $12 more than the Miravel? And also what’s preferred line for this reel? I usually use 10lbs braid on my spinning reel. Will be used for pretty much everything so would mono be preferred over braid? I’d prefer to not use leaders if possible. Or is fluorocarbon better on spinning reels (just wouldn’t work for topwater poppers as well)?? I’ve never tried fluorocarbon on spinning. Quote
PaulVE64 Posted March 26, 2024 Posted March 26, 2024 Ultegra is worth the $12 difference. Personally I like stC rods and I usually upsize my reels. I also prefer braid to a mono leader But I fish for river smallies so I'm bound to have weird preferances 1 Quote

I use a 2500 Stradic fl on my victory 73mxf and feel like it works great but it’s also a few inches longer than 6’8. Quote
PaulVE64 Posted March 27, 2024 Posted March 27, 2024 I fish a 2500 or a 3000 on almost everything. From a 6' mlf to a 7' mfast. I like the line pickup when I'm throwing upstream. 1 Quote
MiceNReets Posted March 27, 2024 Author Posted March 27, 2024 Hmmm… maybe I’ll switch to a 2500 then. I was thinking maybe 2000 would be good since it’s a shorter rod.. but what do I know 🤷🏻♂️ I don’t use a spinning reel often. That’s why I have one combo that I use once or twice a year lol (not including my panfish combo not for bass ) 2 Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted March 27, 2024 Super User Posted March 27, 2024 I have the Mojo Bass rod. It's a great rod for jerkbaits and light topwaters. I haven't used the Victory so I don't know how it compares. 1 Quote
Super User Munkin Posted March 28, 2024 Super User Posted March 28, 2024 Have not used either of those but I do have the 68MXF Avid and it is my favorite spinning rod hands down. I like it so much I am having a second one built on a SCV blank just to see how it compares. Allen 2 Quote
JMac603 Posted April 1, 2024 Posted April 1, 2024 I'm still rocking the Avid X 6'8" MXF (I'm told it's very similar to the Victory - no idea) and love it for tubes/jig worm with straight #8 fluoro. I like the shorter rod when I'm on my kayak. The tip is pretty soft but loads up quickly into the backbone, which is exactly why I like it for tubes. A lot of times you don't feel them grab it off the bottom so I watch the tip and if it loads as I got to move it, I crank into em and it's game on. 1 1 Quote
BigSkyBassin Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 I've got the Victory 6'8" MXF "Tactical" Favorite blank St. Croix makes and I've got the Legend Extreme in the same taper, only casting model. The spinning version is the best tube rod I've ever used, also killer with small swimbaits, light topwaters, flukes, etc. A 1/8 oz t rigged worm ain't too shabby either in sparse cover. Bet a light shaky head wouldn't suck... I use the casting model as my dedicated hard jerkbait rod and in that role find it unbeatable. The taper is just so light and snappy but super forgiving for trebles...short enough to work a bait, long enough to keep fish pinned and take up slack on a hookset. Just a really great rod. 1 Quote
