jdr99a Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 I’m in the market for a swimbait rod specifically for single hook soft swimbaits is the dobyns fury 795 rod a good fit for that application or is that more of the treble hooked hard baits? Any recommendations for an entry level (say $150ish) single hook swimbait rod? Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted March 21, 2024 Super User Posted March 21, 2024 795 is a nice rod for wakes, rats, magnum topwaters, magdrafts, and mid-sized glides. Single hook is a different story but depends on what you're wanting to throw. It would do fine with a 68 Hudd or burrito, but I wouldn't recommend it for anything larger than that. 1 Quote
softwateronly Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 I've had the same experience as @NorcalBassin with the 795. scott 1 Quote
jdr99a Posted March 21, 2024 Author Posted March 21, 2024 Thanks for the replies. I’m really looking at baits the size of the burrito or magdraft. I’m not planning on using it for the really big baits. Quote
Super User WRB Posted March 21, 2024 Super User Posted March 21, 2024 IMO the Dobyns FR795SB is marginal for top hook swimbaits exceeding 2 oz. Irod IRG783SB Jr Swimbiat is MH and about 1/2 power stronger and can hook set top hook swimbaits 2 1/2 oz and cast treble hook wakes and Swimbaits to 3 oz effectively, cost $150. Tom 1 Quote
softwateronly Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 This rod keeps surprising me at what it can do. It's quickly moving up my list as a favorite big bait rod. I've lob/launched 4.5oz 8" spro swimbaits no problem, but I really dig it for the 6" burrito, more than enough backbone to thump em when slow rolling. Even flipped and frogged a bit with it last summer, super versatile. https://www.digitaka.com/item/29/6/5/4573236260358 scott Quote
Super User webertime Posted March 21, 2024 Super User Posted March 21, 2024 If you can find a previous generation MOJO Bass or Blue Label Bass X 710Hf (1-4oz NOT THE .75 TO 3oz model). Great jig hook rods for $~100 Quote
