Super User tcbass Posted March 19, 2024 Super User Posted March 19, 2024 I'm interested in purchasing a new topwater frog rod. Was looking at Edge and Trika rods. Does anyone here have any experience with them? Would you buy one? https://edgerods.com/shop/?yith_wcan=1&filter_species=bass&query_type_species=and https://trika.com/products/trika-6x-carbon-weave-fishing-rods Quote
MeatHead1313 Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 I dont have any experience with Trika, but do have 2 Edge rods, an Epitome casting and a Silver Widow spinning rod. Both rods are absolutely fantastic, although the Silver Widow is heavier than I'd expected for a medium light rod, but it balances well with a reel on so the weight isn't noticeable. The Epitome is extremely lightweight, coming in just under 3oz for a 7'3 mh. Sensitivity is insane on both rods as well. Customer service (for me at least) was fantastic as well. While waiting for my Epitome to ship, my wife and I had sold our old house and bought a new one, and the shipping info was for the old house. Emailed Edge asking if I could get the address changed and got a reply back very quickly stating yes, and another one when they'd changed it for me. My only gripe is with the ship times. Both rods took several months to ship, the Epitome I was expecting as it was a pre-order, but the Silver Widow was supposed to be in stock when I ordered and still took nearly 3 months to ship. Would definitely order another in the future. They run several sales throughout the year as well. 2 Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted March 20, 2024 Super User Posted March 20, 2024 I have some Edge rods. My experiences have been good to very good. The real benefit to Edge models is the level of sensitivity. For a frog rod, I don’t see the need for a high degree of sensitivity so I would consider that. If you want try an Edge rod for frogs, the EFX Pro MBR 736-1 would be a great choice. It will also fill in as a heavy jig or pitchin rod. In all honesty, a Dobyns Champion 736C gives the Edge a real run for the money. Quote

Personally I’d give the 3x a shot and see how it performs, other than that for the money I’d pick up the Tatula Elite Ish frog rod. The old model was fire and the new ones seem even better. Quote
