Cam1989 Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 Hey guys. New to the forum here. I caught this bass yesterday in about 3 feet of water on the bank of one of the main lake creeks. It’s definitely my new PB, unfortunately I didn’t have a scale. Curious what y’all estimate the weight was. Do you think it was a spawning female? Water temp was about 64. Thanks for your response! 8 Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted March 19, 2024 Super User Posted March 19, 2024 Welcome to the boards and congrats on the PB! Did you buy any chance get a length measurement on her? With that girth and temp there's a good chance she's not too far from spawning. My guestimate is around 6lbs. 2 Quote
GRiver Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 She’s a nice one…… under 5, but over 4. It really depends on who caught it. If we were fishing together and you caught it eehhh….. if I caught it …NEW STATE RECORD.. hahaha. 1 3 Quote

Super User MickD Posted March 19, 2024 Super User Posted March 19, 2024 Size is tough to estimate from a photo. Not knowing how long your arms are. Regardless, a very nice sized fish. Quote
Pat Brown Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 Nice fish! Edit: I think actually you might have an angled a little bit funny in that last picture and I'm going to change my answer to between 6 and 7. It's honestly impossible to tell from pictures so you're going to have to get a scale for the next one! 😉 1 Quote
Jmilburn76 Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 Its a really nice bass regardless of size, congrats and welcome to Bass Resource! Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted March 19, 2024 Super User Posted March 19, 2024 More than 5, less than 7. 2 Quote

fin Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 5-6lb. All that gear and you don't have $20 scales? Fish have a protective layer of slime. It's not good to lay them across absorbent materials like your shorts. 3 1 Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted March 19, 2024 Super User Posted March 19, 2024 Exactly Good point Nice. Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted March 19, 2024 Super User Posted March 19, 2024 My first guess was close to five pounds, but when you see how distended her jaw is, I'm thinking maybe five and a half pounds. 3 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted March 19, 2024 Global Moderator Posted March 19, 2024 Looks like she’s full…All of 5+ Hopefully you released her to finish up, at which point maybe 4 1/2 Mike Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted March 19, 2024 Super User Posted March 19, 2024 I also agree with five and a half pounds But do any of us really know for sure? Bring a scale, you knucklehead Great fish and congrats!! 😃 1 Quote
Super User Bird Posted March 19, 2024 Super User Posted March 19, 2024 That's a 6lb fish that likely " identifies" as a female 😁.........congrats and welcome to the forum. 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted March 19, 2024 Super User Posted March 19, 2024 Between 4-1/2 and 6 pounds. That's a healthy looking bass. Quote

Super User casts_by_fly Posted March 22, 2024 Super User Posted March 22, 2024 About a 5-5.5# from me as well. The size of the mouth in the first picture looks about 3.5" across given the size of the chatterbait. In the last picture the length is about 6x as long as the mouth width, which would estimate the fish around 20-21" long which doesn't look far off unless you're 6'8" or 4'8" tall. A 20" largemouth around here with full summer weight is going to push high 4#. That fish is maybe a little longer (figure 0.5# per half inch at that size with normal proportions) and looks 'full' so I'd give you a solid 5+, but without any measurements I'm going to say not 6. 2 Quote
