VolFan Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 That’s a groundhog/woodchuck right @TnRiver46? I don’t think they’re too hard to trap but what you do with it them might be the bigger question. 1 Quote

VolFan Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 I think @clayton86 may recommend 40 grains of .223 at 3300 fps… 2 2 Quote
newriverfisherman1953 Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 Yep groundhog. Shooting it is a lot easier than trapping it. For trapping I recommend a conibear rather than a live trap. 1 Quote
Super User GaryH Posted March 18, 2024 Super User Posted March 18, 2024 Groundhog. They kept me and the 17 hmr busy the last 2 years. They love making basements under all the out buildings. 1 Quote

steve carpenter Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 Do they have ground hogs in California? 1 Quote

Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted March 18, 2024 Global Moderator Posted March 18, 2024 Never been to cali but sure looks like a groundhog. Don’t know if they exist out west . If not it’s something similar like marmot, prairie dog, pocket gopher, etc. Groundhog will walk into a trap eventually if you keep fresh sliced apples in there every couple days. But like others have suggested if you can take a pic you can take a shot 😂. Not sure if that’s an option where you live, scatter gun doesn’t go far but the neighbors will hear it . Some would be thrilled some would call the law 2 Quote

looking45 Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 Whatever it is, it’s digging and you want to get rid of it as soon as possible before it does some damage. A high powered airgun should be able to take it out. A lot quieter than a firearm 3 Quote

Same as NJ where I am. I used to have them in the UK and most of my guns are threaded for them. I gave them away when I left. 4 hours ago, TnRiver46 said: Never been to cali but sure looks like a groundhog. Don’t know if they exist out west .
