LCG Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 Daiwa Aird-X 7' MH-F (really more of a moderate fast) 1/4-1oz makes a nice budget moving bait rod. I had good luck last year with my Daiwa Rebellion 6'10 MH-R as well, similar rating and action. I find this to be a pretty versatile rod. This year, playing around with reel and line variations for different uses. 1 Quote

I go between the 843 and the 844. Yesterday I was throwing a 3/8oz chatter bait with a minnow trailer on an 843 and it was killer. I always have two-843, and one or two 844 every trip. I use them for what ever is needed. Jigs, t-rigs, spinnerbaits. chatterbaits, swimbaits w belly weighted hook, swim jigs, buzz baits, They are my favorite chatter bait rods. Unlike every other person in the world, I don't like moderate rods for chatterbaits. 1 1 Quote

If you’re going to throw 1/4-3/8 spinnerbaits all the time then get the finesse jig. A 3/8 will be okay, but you’ll struggle with a 1/4 oz spinnerbait. 1 Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted March 19, 2024 Super User Posted March 19, 2024 I've been really happy with the 843 for 1/4-1/2oz spinnerbaits. I like a little longer rod to launch casts away from the boat, so I moved the 843 to kayak duty and picked up a 903 for the boat (essentially the same rod but 6" longer). Couldn't be happier with the MBR tapers. 1 Quote

I had one too until the handle fell apart. Had my Zillion SV TW on there for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits and it was great!! Quote
rangerjockey Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 I've used the Cara head turner for years. It's got a nice tip , not too fast and just a versatile rod in general. I just received a new Fenwick Elite 6ft 8 medium in the reaction bait series .What a sweet 1/4-3/8 spinnerbait rod as well as the mini Max and poppers. For lighter baits, and a bit less expensive than the Cara it's worth considering 1 Quote

It becomes more difficult to feel a spinnerbait when it is moving slower or deeper. Some people may prefer a fast action for spinnerbaits. I prefer a moderate fast and heavy monofilament with a tight drag. When I feel a fish bite, I tend to be very fast on the hookset with spinnerbaits. A moderate fast with elastic monofilament slows me down. The tight drag is to provide enough force to force down the wire, if necessary, and to get the fish’s head moving in my direction. Finally, a shorter rod helps with accuracy. All of the above are reasons why the Head Turner is such a fantastic spinnerbait rod. It balances best with a 1/2oz spinnerbait, but can throw 3/8 or 3/4. I would not go heavier or lighter. I’ve wondered what makes a good spinnerbait rod ? I like a co-poly line like YZH #12 lb. to #15 lb. or Big Game in the same sizes and tend to set the hook pretty quick as well . I use a Dobyns Sierra MH 7’3” which has a slower tip - combined with line stretch and my hook set helps the cause when using a spinner bait . Quote
