Ski Posted March 17, 2024 Posted March 17, 2024 To my Bass Resource Friends, If you have ever had the virus known as “Chickenpox” then this virus ” varicella-zoster” lives dormant in your body forever and may @ anytime reservice as what is known as “Shingles” In my case, I had a Shingles vaccination years ago. I understand that there is a new vaccination that has a 91 % rate of success. However it is to late for me as this horrible Virus has surfaced on my forehead, scalp and right side of my face. It has swollen my right eye darn near shut, is EXTREMLY painful to the point I was prescribed Opioids and is itchy with blisters. These symptoms will last 2-4 weeks! It is not contagious to anyone that has had chicken pox but could affect someone that has not. I encourage anyone that has not received the new version of this vaccination to DO SO! YOU DO NOT WANT THIS !!!!!!!!, R/Ski 16 Quote
Super User gim Posted March 17, 2024 Super User Posted March 17, 2024 Hope it heals as quick as possible. It’s an awful virus. My Grandfather got it before he died pretty bad back in 2006. He had just had knee replacement surgery. Then it got infected, so they prescribed injectable antibiotics. He then had an allergic reaction to that. Shortly thereafter he also got shingles. He died a month later but I remember him saying that it felt like his skin was on fire because of the shingles. 1 Quote
Ski Posted March 17, 2024 Author Posted March 17, 2024 Yes, it feels as if there is a hot iron on my face not to mention headache, earache, sore throat and shooting pain occasionally through my head. 2 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted March 17, 2024 Super User Posted March 17, 2024 Couple years back I had a very mild case of Shingles across my left chest under peck to the back. Yeah. Even a mild case was bad enough. I was fortunate to catch it early and had two bouts of the pill that limited its reach, and was helped immensely by Gabapentin which took the edge off of the electrical fire-like itching. Good luck and recovery quickly, @Ski! 1 Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted March 17, 2024 Super User Posted March 17, 2024 Nasty virus. I hope you heal quickly. 1 Quote

Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted March 17, 2024 Global Moderator Posted March 17, 2024 I had it at age 19 while going through my chemo. I had it just under my left peck and it wrapped around to my left shoulder blade. It was quite painful and still to this day (21 years later) I still have nerve damage from it. I can barely feel my fingers go across my skin in the area. 1 Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted March 17, 2024 BassResource.com Administrator Posted March 17, 2024 Ya, I got it across my back a few years ago. It was like a fresh sunburn. Anything touching it burned. Fortunately some antibiotics cleared it up within a week. So I lucked out. Speedy recovery my friend. 1 Quote
Jmilburn76 Posted March 17, 2024 Posted March 17, 2024 @Ski seems terrible and will have me looking into vaccines for it. Hope you have a full and speedy recovery! 1 Quote

greentrout Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 Had it 2010 with my right side from my arm pit to my navel covered with a red burning shingles. Just shows up and burns like crazy. Sleepless nights. Have not had since then. VA gave me a vaccine a couple of weeks ago. Happy and no qualms to take it. Never had any side effects. 2 Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted March 19, 2024 Super User Posted March 19, 2024 Have heard Ivermectin can help, but may depend on your doc and what state you live in. 1 1 Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted March 19, 2024 Super User Posted March 19, 2024 It can be treated with antiviral drugs but they are most effective if taken within the first 72 hours. I’ve had the new vaccine. My reaction to it was the worst of any vaccine I’ve received but it was still worth it. 2 Quote

Yes, my wife took the antiviral med Valacyclovir and it knocked it out fairly quickly… 1 Quote

Captain Phil Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 Shingles is nasty, especially when you are up in years. My wife got the vaccine a few years ago. Despite this, she got it anyway. We both have had it, but not as bad as some. 1 Quote

Only recommended for people age 50+ and yes the most recent one is a two-shot regimen. My parents are both about 70 and their primary care doctor advised both of them to get it last year, which they did. I know you're not 50 or older even though you look like it. 1 Quote
