Not a purchase by me - but a b-day gift from the wife (a week early)

20241112_152440-a.jpg.cc1ffb75dcf0ebe79c7e593454d1dd7f.jpg

Too late in the year to give it a water-test, but it actually feels good in the hand and seems to be well balanced. I like the slate-gray color of it too.

One thing I noticed is that the blank 'peeks' through the handle. The way I grip my rod, I'll have a finger on the blank at all times...I like it.

Looks great! Excited for mine to show up on Friday.

A review on TW said it reminds them of the Mojo V2, so that alone peaked my interest

Happy Birthday early!

With a gift like that I would find some open water and toss a lure around even if it wasn’t real fishing, just to get a feel for it.

It’ll be a loonnngggg coooollldddd winter having it sit in the corner all lonesome like starring at you 😁

It'll actually be sitting on the rack - chatting with my Victorys and Mojos about how bad I am at catching good size fish. 🥴

@MN Fisher That is freaking awesome my man. Kudos to your wife for either having kick butt taste in rods or at very least having a good memory when she heard you talking to her about the rod. I’m really excited to get to handle these at our local outdoor/fishing show but that’s not until February. I’ve got a question for you, do you have any experience with the Dobyns Sierra line? And if so how would you say it compares in hand or how do you feel it compares in hand to your Mojo’s and Victory’s?

Actually. it was on my Amazon Wish-List - she purchased it there, but it drop-shipped from St. Croix direct.

And no - only Dobyn's I've had are Furys.

Definitely cool. I’ve only had a top piece of a 2 piece rod shipped from St.Croix and they did a great job although that was at least over 10 years ago.  And once again I’m going to say that’s a good spouse right there. My wife did the same thing for me with a rod that I put on my wishlist from Tackle Warehouse’s Black Friday sale a handful of years ago. It’s still one of my favorite rods for both being a rod I really wanted and because she purchased it for me even though she has zero interest in fishing.

I picked up a Megabass Orochi XX Leviathan 8' Med Fast 2 - 8 oz and topped it with a Shimano Calcutta Conquest MD 300 XGLH(Long Handle). Spooled it with Daiwa 22lb Samurai Hidden FC. It will be a perfect match for my Jon boat.😁

Edge is not affiliated with Shimano or Fenwick to my knowledge and is owned/operated by Gary Loomis and uses his own NFC blanks. Would love to know how they compete at their price point.

I’m surprised people still aren’t aware of this. Gary supplied blanks for Trey Kistler for many recent years but no longer. I have a few edge rods now, they are his/NFC’s rods/builds.

I like my short rods, just ordered this Palms Egeria last night, should have it next week.  I bought it for fishing skinny water for big lake run brown and rainbow trout, but it will work equally well for smallmouth in similar environments.  I'll be running an Abu 2500C with an Avail 2540R spooled with #1.5 and an 8lb leader.

Over the last week, I picked up a daiwa arid-x combo, an ultralight combo and today ordered a Daiwa SV TW (the $150 one at scheels) and an orochi xx tour versatile. Wife is out of town and will be back Friday afternoon. I hope UPS comes in the morning 😳

What do you plan to use the Tour Versatile for?

Not really sure yet. Jigs, may use chatterbailts, smaller (<6”) swimbaits, single hook most likely.

As promised, here’s the new rod and reel.

Orochi XX F6-70XX, Tour Versatile

Daiwa Tatula SV TW 103 (7.1:1)

Ummmm, I really, really wish I hadn’t bought a MB. I do believe I haven’t seen anything so beautiful and elegant since my granddaughter was a few hours old!!

Although I 'added' to this thread, it didn't cost me a dime...unlike other times!  🤣

I've decided that I may 'want' other rods and reels, but am going to try and persevere against the Bait Monkey.  :hammerblows:

Instead I am upgrading my camera equipment.  From E-510 to E-5.  Daughter can't afford a camera so her Christmas present will be the E-510 plus the two kit lenses I bought with the camera (14-42mm f3.5-5.6 and 40-150 f4-5.6), Metz 48 flash, new Sandisk Extreme Pro 32GB SD card, two batteries, etc.  All in mint condition.

I upgraded those two lenses to an Olympus 12-60mm f2.8-4 SWD ED and 50-200mm f2.8-3.5 SWD ED to go with the E-5.  Used, of course.  Am keeping the 70-300mm f4-5.6 and 50mm f2 Macro lenses that I later purchased for the E-510.  Will need a nice flash.  Maybe another Metz 48 or a Godox.

BTW, my Megabass rods are limited to one.  Wouldn't have that one if it hadn't been basically a gift.  An older Orochi XX Diablo Spec R.
